Corn Grilled in the Husk

Grilled Corn Recipe

Corn grilled in the husk provides a savory treat that is sure to have your guests begging for more. With a little prep time prior to grilling corn on the grill, this method practically guarantees no singed ears or charred husks to deal with.

Prepping Corn Grilled in the Husk

Remove the outer layer of the husk. Gently pull back the top of the husk to expose the silk at the end of the ear. Use care not to tear the husk. Corn grilled in the husk depends on the husk for protection from the heat of the grill and to hold in moisture while grilling.

Remove the silk and discard. Carefully fold the husk over the exposed end of the ear of corn. The State of Wisconsin Department of Health and Human Services recommends leaving 2 to 3 layers of the husk covering corn on the cob.

Place the corn on the cob in a large bowl or bucket of cold water. Totally submerge the corn and allow to soak for at least an hour. The husk absorbs moisture from the water and prevents it from drying or burning while grilling.

Remove corn from the water and allow excess water to drain. Pat dry with a soft cloth.

Grilling Corn

Place the ears of corn on the grill set to medium heat. Grill corn for 20 to 30 minutes, turning occasionally to evenly roast the corn. Corn on the cob is done when kernels are sweet and tender but do not release milky juice when punctured.

Remove the grilled corn from the grill with a pairs of tongs and allow to cool slightly. Remove the husk as soon as the corn can be handled safely.

Keep corn out of the reach of small children and pets, until it has cooled properly. Adult supervision is required to husk the corn as steam may be released and burn tiny fingers.

Serve on a platter with melted butter and salt and pepper to taste.

Corn grilled in the husk, develops a rich savory flavor that can't be matched by traditional boiled corn. When served with grilled burgers or thick juicy steak, grilled corn adds color and flavor to summer BBQs. So, put that kettle away and get ready for delicious sweet corn grilled to perfection.
