Items needed for eight bags, is a quarter yard of two different colors of heavy canvas. You want a heavy canvas so it will slide on the board and withstand the test of time. If you were to use a non-canvas, material it would not hold up as well as it should. Each finished bean bag will measure 6 inches by 6 inches when finished.
The reason you need two different colors of canvas is obvious to those who play the corn hole bean bag game. The game is played by teams and each team needs a separate color to make scoring so much easier.
You also need 8 pounds of whole kernel corn, which can be purchased at a feed store or Tractor Supply stores nationwide. Some people like to use plastic pellets, which can be found, at any craft store and this is fine, but to be official you need to use whole kernel-corn, which is sold as chicken feed.
You also need a funnel with a wide mouth to allow the whole kernel-corn to pass through the bottom or simply cut off the end of a soda bottle to use as you will need it to fill your corn hole bean bag.
Assembling the bag is easy and should take less then five minutes or less.
Once you have the canvas purchased, cut it into squares, which are seven inches by seven inches. You then place the right sides of the material together and sew a half-inch seam on three sides and half way up the fourth side.
Go ahead and place a funnel into the part of the corn hole bean bag, which is not sewed and pour the whole kernel-corn into the funnel and it will flow into the bag. If you do not have a funnel, you could use a soda bottle with the bottom cut off.
Once the corn hole bean bag is filled with a pound of corn remove the funnel or bottle and sew up the hole. Then you will give the entire bag another quarter inch seam around the entire bag, this will assure you that your filling does not fall out should the first seam pop out.

Post a CommentI made our cornhole bags exactly to your measurements as I am a quilter and cut and sew to perfection. My finished bags seem full and measure only 5.5 inches square. How am I supposed to measure the bags. They are only 6X6 before stuffing. Should I cut the material larger than 7x7 to have an end product after stuffed that is 6x6 or is after stuffed measuring 5.5x5.5 accurate? Thank you!
Glad to see word of this great game is spreading. If you're in need of cornhole supplies, check us out at Cornhole.com . We've also got a pretty solid blog running at The Cornhole Blog .
