Corn Mazes in Muncie, IN Area

Bob Murphy
Ghosties and ghoulies and frightening fooleries: Muncie, IN is no stranger to the spookiness that comes from walking a corn field at night. We've certainly had our share of weirdness in the past-Close Encounters of the Third Kind and several UFO sightings, rumored hauntings by John Dillinger and his gang of outlaws in a couple old homes, and a graveyard with headstones that change their number when you walk on them (walk across them in one direction and you count 13, but on the way back the count is 12). In the next month or so though, Indiana's well-established corn crops will begin to be harvested. But the lucky crops are those in the fields not harvested in the traditional way. Those lucky few are the fields converted into ma(i)zes. But the most fun scary things are the two closest corn mazes.

The most popular is 1 Fun Farm (www.1funfarm.com). Located a short drive from Muncie, IN, in Farmland, it is well-established. Featuring a maze that changes with each year, you play a trivia and/or memory game that helps you find your way through the maze. 1 Fun Farm also has a pumpkin patch, a petting zoo, a corn cannon, pig races and a night-time haunted maze that will scare the wits out of you. In addition to all this, the maze also holds an annual fall festival, held on October 3, 2009.

The second maze in the area is the newer Maized and Cornfused (www.mazedandcornfused.com/index.html). Comparatively, it is a smaller, but it offers enough that's different from 1 Fun Farm that makes it just as fun. Maized and Cornfused offers not only a maze and a pumpkin patch like its nearby competition, but it trumps them by also having hay rides and a quaint little shop that sells quilts and other knitted and sewn items.

While we have been to both mazes, our experience tells us that 1 Fun Farm is the one more suitable for the youngest children. Our daughter, one year old at the time, fussed and cried the entire time while at Maized and Cornfused, but was enamored with the farm animals at 1 Fun Farm. We hope that as she gets older, she will enjoy the Maized and Cornfused maze more because we feel it is the better of the mazes, while 1 Fun Farm offers the most entertainment.

So if you're looking for a frighteningly good time in Muncie, IN, stop by our ma(i)zes and hope you don't run into any of the undead.

Linda: My sincerest apologies for goofing up the name of your establishment. I must have gotten carried away with the punning.

Thanks for the good story. Mazed & Cornfused is now in its third year and hope you will visit again. Please check the spelling of our name. It is Mazed & Cornfused. Not Maized and Cornfused.
