Coronado Hotel

Growing up as a teen in San Diego, my best friend (we still are today) and me were on the rebellious side. One evening, we took off for the Coronado Hotel for unknown reasons. We just ended up there. We were 15 years old and it was a Friday night. We were supposed to be at our high school football game.

The only thing we knew about the Coronado Hotel was that there was a ghost in one of the rooms where a woman committed suicide and we wanted to see it. We also knew that Marilyn Monroe and Tony Curtis made the movie "Some like it hot". We did walk by the room where the woman supposedly committed suicide but of course we weren't able to get in.

Somehow, we ended up in the service elevator. Along with us were staff members and no one said a word to us. Which we thought was strange. I guess they did not care if 2 young girls were on the service elevator that was intended for employees only. Somehow, we took the elevator to the roof. We were laughing and walking around on the roof of the hotel. I do remember that there were areas on the roof that kind of sunk in. I am talking about the red roof on the original building. We just kind of hung out for a while and then headed back towards home.

This last summer, we met up with a long time friend of ours at the hotel. We had time before our friend was to arrive so we walked around, but of course not on the roof. Although, we laughed and talked about it. We had a nice brunch there when our friend arrived. Since then, the hotel has added on cottages and other buildings. But what a beautiful site to watch the sailboats out on the ocean. Coronado is really amazing!

While we were there, we noticed at least four weddings being set up on the beach. What a beautiful place for a wedding. Each area where the weddings were being set up, were all different of course to the bride's choices. They were all being set up on the sand facing the ocean. It was really a beautiful way to celebrate a wedding. It was a beautiful summers day for a wedding. What a great place to have a wedding.

On the other side of the hotel, there is the Coronado Bridge. It is a nice bridge and worth a ride over it. Next time you go to San Diego, check it out. You won't be disappointed.
