As I heard the President speaking over the television, I remember what my nephew has said to me early about returning to Iraq. He spoke about the last time he was there, he said there was only one little hamburger place. Now since he has return, he talks about the new huge Walmart, the Taco Bell, and other business from America that is popping up. I responded by answering "What?". He continue to say, "the Generals are making money while we are dying. He repeated the phase "I am so sick of this".
I am amazed at this news. It is something I haven't heard since this war began. Then I remember the days when I spent on the aircraft carrier, The Coral Sea. There was an incident before the first Iraq war when our ship was out to sea. We were in a daily flight operations, I was an Aviation Electrician working on a team that was required to do immediate maintenance on F-18s and A-6s aircraft as soon as needed. One night, I was on the flight deck and I was stopped by the Marines and I was told to stand still as they were guarding live missiles. These missiles were being loaded onto planes. I thought to myself, what is going on? we are in peace time and it is the middle of night. I watch the planes take off and when they returned, no missiles. As a matter of fact, one plane didn't returned. No one ever discuss the events of that night. From this day I have always wondered what actually happen. I realized then that enlisted men and women was not informed to the particulars. We are told to go to point A to Point B and don't ever question the method. But this makes you wonder what is really going on?
What I don't understand is, why the Media has heard about the corporate progress in Iraq. Why haven't the main news venues informed us about the money being made in Iraq. The news tells us daily how much the war is costing, but not one story about the flip side. The reality has finally hit me, Our troops aren't going anywhere. All the political talks with the Democrats and Republican arguing over Iraq is just political theater. Iraq is a goldmine and apparent the people making the decisions knows this. It doesn't matter how many lives it is costing us or to Iraq. Money is behind everything, it is the root of all evil.
What has happen to the America that we once thought we knew? when did it get so ugly? Why don't we have someone out there who is willing to keep it real for us, Americans? Why are there so many people out there willing to sell there soul for money and power? I am saddened about the reality we live in. And may God bless us all because I predict this is going to get a whole lot worst. Draft is coming!

Post a CommentTaco Bell in Iraq? Gosh, how stupid.
Keep on writing. At least you are interested enough to try to make sense out of the mess over there.
Are you a f ing moron? Generals aren't getting money for evey hamburger stand or taco bell going up. That is our economy expanding. Money moves everything. DUH! It's not a bad thing. It is helping some parts of their country to start to come together. As a military spouse, daughter, granddaughter, niece and sister to someone in the military, I am stunned at this article. And your nephew is sick of it. It's the second time he's been there and as a marine he gets the longest stint out of the military. He would rather be at home with his wife, daughter and son. He's a smart man and knows what is real. Make sure you get all the info before you publish it.
Great article and informative! It is a shame that these military leaders don't get it right, and people are dying for what they think they are fighting for - democracy in Iraq, but they are dying for the wrong reasons!
