Corpus Christi, Here I Come!
A Look into the Magical World of Corpus Christi, Through the Eyes of One Who's Been There
Corpus Christi is a coastal Texas community, located on the Gulf of Mexico. With mild temperatures, often in the 70s in winter, and boasting two hundred and fifty five days of sunshine a year, what's not to love? You might have some questions, and that's understandable. You want the best for yourself and your family don't you? Lets take care of those concerns.
Where will we sleep? Now that's a major factor in any vacation, be it romantic or family oriented. You want someplace to rest and relax, unwind and rejuvenate. You might try staying in The Omni Waterfront Hotel. With its gorgeous view of the harbor, and luxurious accommodations, including banquet and event rooms for your every need. For more private settings, try the Ocean House, with its five luxuriously private suites, and gourmet weekend breakfasts. If you're looking for something fun and romantic Christi Estates. They offer a variety of lodging including twenty two fantasy spa suites, perfect for a romantic getaway for two. Those are just a few of the hundreds of choices in Corpus Christi.
Now the second most important question to ask; what's there to eat in this town?
This close to the border, be assured the Mexican food is to die for! You must pop over to Taqueria El Reparo, it is just divine. And of course being right there on the gulf assures you the best fresh seafood you've ever tasted! Along with awesome Vietnamese cuisine offered at Vietnam Restaurant, you might want to try Jezebelle's. Located in the Art Center of Corpus Christi, with lunch menus to drive you wild, and a breathtaking view of the marina, it really hits the spot. Don't forget to stop by the famous City Diner and Oyster Bar for, well, anything off the grill. It's all good. You can't go wrong, whether you order the chicken fried chicken with home made gravy from scratch or the Red Snapper Nieces. Plus in addition to these local eateries you can still find you hometown favorites, like Whataburger, Sonic, Texas Roadhouse, and Olive Garden.
"Okay, we're stuffed and rested. We're ready to get out on the town and do some sight seeing," you say. Now where to start. That's tough. How long have you got?
You can start with the USS Lexington if you like. The massive World War II aircraft carrier is literally a floating museum. You can check out the mega theater, or the flight simulator, or just stand there amazed at the views of corpus Christi and the Harbor Bridge from the flight deck. History really comes alive as you maneuver around this ship. This is easily a day long trip in itself, and you can even stay the night!
In the same area you will find the Texas State Aquarium. For a minimal fee you can spend the day looking at everything from dolphins and otters to sharks, sea turtles, and jelly fish from around the world. With a hands on tank, kids can get in on the action as well. Located in very close proximity to the Lex, and aquarium you can find the Museum of Science and History. The Children's Wharf is complete with a functional two story play light house and a musical alligator among many other activities for youngsters, available. As part of the Science and History Museum, feel free to visit replica's of Columbus's famous ships!
Now you can't forget the beaches! Corpus boasts one of the coasts finest. Stroll, skate, or bike along the Waterfront Seawall. Take the steps down to the beach and sun yourself, or play with the kids in the lazy waves. Corpus is also famous for its water sports. This is the place for you if you like windsurfing, sailing, kayaking, paddle boating, or skiing. Lessons are readily available as well!
If you like shopping you've come to the right place! With two malls, chock full of the best stores, such as Macy's, Pac Sun, Victoria's Secret, Kirkland's, Burlington, Sears, and specialty shops there's no better place to pick up a new swim suit or a souvenir! With tons of boutiques in town, and a million and one beach wear, surf shops and souvenir shops on the water, everyone is sure to find something they love! One store that you absolutely must stop by, Gatherings located on South Alameda. It is chock full of treasures. Their baby shoppe has everything from Mudpie, and Giraffe. They also offer Yankee Candles, and WillowTree figurines. Gatherings offers gift wrapping on any of the treasures you find, you're sure to find at least one, if not ten you can't live without!
And what would a coastal community be without fishing? With multiple fishing guides, including deep sea fishing guides you're sure to catch something to fry up tonight! Don't forget golfing as well! Many hotels in the area offer package deals on both fishing and golfing to their guests-- in most cases all you have to do is ask!
Now I haven't even began to cover half the things you can do in this great town. Don't forget Windfest, and the many concerts and shows that come through the Concert Street Amphitheater. You might also like to catch a show at the Harbor Playhouse, or race a go cart at Funtrackers! You can also stop by the beautiful A&M campus, or pop over to Del Mar College.
Corpus Christi is home to many people, and could become home to you! After a trip down you'll see what you've been missing all this time, and never want to leave! Corpus Christi is a gem in Texas, with weeks and weeks, months and months worth of things to do. There's no way you'll see it all in one trip, so I expect we'll see you back again soon!
