Corpus Christi Evacuation Planning

Officials in Texas have already begun calling for phase 1 evacuations. Corpus Christi residents with special transportation needs have been provided with special buses to begin evacuating as early as Wednesday morning. On September 8th, Texas Governor Rick Perry issued a disaster declaration to allow the mobilization of National Guard personnel and other resources in advance of Hurricane Ike's expected arrival on Saturday morning. The Governor reported that 7500 Guardsmen are standing by for rapid deployment to Corpus Christi or elsewhere as needed when the hurricane arrives.

The Department of Public Safety has also activated disaster operations centers in Corpus Christi, McAllen and San Antonio. More than 1300 buses are standing by should mandatory evacuations be announced in the next few days. Residents of Corpus Christi and other threatened Texas Gulf Coast areas are advised to stay tuned to the news for the latest emergency information.

This sounds very organized. I hope that Ike isn't too serious for Texans. It is good that they put a list of gas stations in their evacuation plan.
