I can't tell you how many times I've walked into a men's restroom and watched other guys leave without even attempting to approach the sink. Think of all the things that are touched by someone who does not wash their hands properly or at all. I've been around people who have coughed or sneezed in there hands and they never consider going to the restroom to wash away those germs. Even if you cough or sneeze in a Kleenex you should always wash your hands so that you do not spread germs to other people. Spreading germs is a domino effect and anytime you are sick and do not wash your hands you could be getting co-workers and others sick just by doing the things you normally do on a daily basis.
These popular items include the key pad at an ATM, telephones, keyboards, door handles, pop machines, etc.
Turning on the water for two seconds and getting your hands "wet" doesn't count as actually washing away germs.
Follow these easy steps to keep your hands clean. Doing so will allow you to be sick less and keep those around you healthier as well.
1. Use warm water
2. Use whatever soap is available. Antibacterial is great but it's not the only option.
3. Keep a small container of alcohol hand sanitizer with you at all times. In some cases washing your hands is not an option.
You can buy a small container that will fit in your pocket.
4. Rub your hands together vigorously; lather both sides of your hands, wrists and around you fingernails.
You should wash your hands for about 15 seconds. Many people say that's about as long as it takes to sing "Happy Birthday".
5. Rinse your hands well under warm running water and pat dry with a clean towel.
When in a public restroom, consider using a paper towel or toilet paper to flush the toilet and open the door. This is a major major area where germs can be found.
By washing your hands frequently the right way, you will wash away germs that you have picked up from other people.
One of the most common ways people catch colds is by rubbing their eyes or nose after a cold virus becomes present on their hands.
It's not fun to be sick and miss work or take care of sick children. By following the simple steps above you may just prevent one or more cold viruses from affecting you and your family.
