Corruption and Crooks Careen in NY Politics
A Contributor Perspective: The Pathetic Spawn the Apathetic
We have former New York City Mayor Ed Koch running the website NY Uprising that touts, "Throw the Bums out." Read more about NY Uprising here. And we have would-be New York State Governor Carl Paladino using the corruption to try to get elected.
Paladino's running on the platform, or perhaps pretense, that if elected, he can clean up all of the corruption in New York State politics, single-handed. He's going to use a good old-fashioned American baseball bat to do it, too. In a recent NY1 interview, Paladino explained his remarks about taking a baseball bat to Albany. He claims the baseball bat is a "metaphor" for the people. He also referred to existing politicians as rodents. He said he's going to shine a light, a spotlight, on the bad guys, the rodents. "And you know what happens when you shine a light on rodents, they tend to run away."
Paladino has also called Sheldon Silver, NY State Assembly Speaker, the "Antichrist and Hitler," the NY Daily News reports. Koch has said that Silver is "the biggest enemy of reform," according to the NY Daily News as well. Paladino also called former NY Governor Pataki a "degenerative idiot," according to New York Magazine. And he called current NY Governor Paterson a "drug addict," according to Gothamist.
Several prominent politicians have been in trouble recently. Congressman Charles Rangel is under investigation on ethics charges which didn't stop him from winning the primary. State Senate Majority Leader Pedro Espada has been charged by Attorney General and Gubernatorial candidate, Andrew Cuomo, with stealing. Espada lost the primary. And our own Governor Paterson faced ethics charges over Yankees' tickets.
In his NY1 interview, Paladino said "Show me one prominent politician in the state of New York. [ ] There are no prominent politicians in the state of New York."
What affect does the political tactic of "outing" corruption and crooks in New York politics have on the people?
When I was a child growing up in New York City, I used to hear my parents and other adults repeatedly say of politicians, "there's no point in voting for any of them; they're all crooks, anyway." Now, I hear people younger than me saying the same exact words.
It's no wonder we have pathetic voter turnout in New York. Our choice of leaders is pathetic. And these pathetic politicians spawn apathetic voters.

“Restore Sanity and/or Fear"
Dear Chancellor and faculties:
Why Dr. Richard D. Coico did not investigate
Young Kim’s fake M.D. degree at Sophie Davis?
Young Kim at Sophie Davis perjured in the affidavit to the court that he is a licensed Medical Doctor to practice Medicine in the State of New York in support his lawsuits against us. But he was not a medical doctor. He lied to the court.
On May 26, 2003, we reported with supporting papers, to Dr. Coico about his fake M.D. degree and misconducts as a faculty. However, Dr. Coico did not do anything about the fake degree, even without responding to my two letters, just ignoring me. How come? Is CUNY Ok with the faculty with a fake M.D.? Now I am writing to the faculty questioning about this silence at this CLEAN UP ALBANY SEASON.
