Cosmetic Product Review: Essence Eye Pencil

Smooth and Vibrant

I recently discovered a new makeup brand while browsing ULTA's online weekly ads. Back in January ULTA had advertised that Essence cosmetics was coming to their stores, and these products would be sold exclusively at ULTA. Essence cosmetics markets itself as being Europe's favorite cosmetic brand because they try to keep up with the latest makeup trend while keeping their products affordable, and until recently it wasn't available in the United States. Naturally I had to try their products out for myself so the moment they were available I dropped by my local ULTA store to pick up a few items, one of which was their eye pencil.

Essence's kajal eye pencil came in several colors but I played it safe and got it in a brown color called Teddy. I find eye pencils to be a hit and miss, and since Essence cosmetics is new to me I didn't want to get too many only to end up throwing it away. I was fairly pleased at the quality and how much I actually ended up liking this eye pencil. This Essence eye pencil only cost me 99 cents, so it's very affordable. For the price I wasn't expecting much but was very surprised at the quality. The pencil itself wasn't brittle, not even when I sharpened it. I loved how soft the colors were. I didn't have to force it out, the color just glided on like satin. It went on smooth and evenly, and the color was exactly as it looked on the pencil. It wasn't too dark or too light. Although this Essence eye pencil wasn't waterproof it did stay on fairly long. I didn't have to reapply until about seven hours later, and it didn't smudge or smear easily. What I loved best about this product was that it's cruelty free.

My only issue with this Essence eye pencil was that on first application I got a slight stinging sensation. There were no debris or flaking, but it was like there was a cooling sensation to it that irritated my eyes. The irritation stopped after a minute, but it was like that every time I applied the eyeliner along my waterline.

Aside from the slight irritation, I thought this was one of the best eye pencil I've tried for the price. I definitely like it more than my E.L.F. Brightening eye pencil. It's a good quality for just under a dollar, well worth trying out. This is a product I plan on trying more of.
