The Difference between Cosmetic and Plastic Surgeons
Many plastic surgeons specialize in both reconstructive and cosmetic surgery and are usually general practitioners of plastic surgery. Being far more specialized is the Cosmetic surgeon, as they usually limit their practices to improving the appearance of the patient. The Cosmetic surgeon is taking a healthy person and just making improvements to their appearance.
The Cost of Cosmetic Surgery
The fees charged by many Cosmetic surgeons can vary widely. However, in our current economic climate, those costs have had to be adjusted. Just a few years ago, a cosmetic facelift would cost a patient near $20,000. However, those costs can now be as low as $5,000 to $12,000 for the same procedure.
Cosmetic Surgery and Health Insurance
Because Cosmetic Surgery is an elective procedure, many insurance carriers do not cover the costs. However, some insurance carriers will cover a few procedures either partially or entirely depending on the patient's plan. Some eyelids, brow lifts and nose procedures that can be corrected for a deviated septum, open up breathing restrictions, or a nasal fracture. There are some breast augmentations that can be corrected if there is hardening, discomfort or some muscle deformity due to the implants.
Cosmetic Surgery Recovery Time
For most Cosmetic Surgery procedures, the recovery time is not as long as patients believe. The perception is weeks or even months, when in reality recovery time is usually within days. A typical cosmetic facelift surgery should only be no more than three hours. That means recovery will be much quicker because the patient will not be under anesthesia as long. The patient is encouraged to get moving quickly and within four to seven days, sutures can be removed.
