Costa Rica Earthquake: Shock Rocks San Jose

The Central American Country of Costa Rica was hit by a strong earthquake on Thursday, January 8th. The earthquake has damaged a few buildings in the capital, San Jose, and killed a child. Several people were injured, and there were more casualties in areas outside the capital, such as at the base of the Poas volcano.

According to Reuters, the 6.1 magnitude earthquake had an epicentre of 20 miles (32 km) from San Jose at a depth of 21.7 mile, and caused 40 seconds of shaking in Costa Rica.

Costa Rica is a region favored by tourists from the United States and various countries all over the world. The official language is Spanish and a vast majority of the population identifies as Christian.

Bordering Panama and Nicaragua, Costa Rica is famous amongst travellers for it's romantic beaches and deep blue sea.
