Costume Ideas for Groups and Couples

1.) The Id and Superego: I did this a few years ago with a friend of mine, and it was really fun. My friend went as the superego, and she wore a very prim outfit (think prude CEO), with her hair pulled back in a tight bun. Another good costume for the superego would be a schoolmarmish outfit, maybe with glasses added. But then you have to add the most important part: the cape. Get it? Superego? Ha. And the Id is a lot of fun too. Just think bright, fun, crazy, silly, sexy, youthful. Good props include candy and toys. I think I had a yo-yo.

2.) Browser Icons: You can do this as a couple or a group. For Firefox, have someone dress in a fox costume and carry a globe. For Internet Explorer, have some one dress in all white, put a blue "e" on their shirt, and wear a gold halo. For Google Chrome, find a creative way to put the logo's colors together. Someone could wear a red hat, a green shirt, yellow pants, and paint their face blue. Or find a different way to combine the colors.

3.) Charlie Brown Characters: Again, could be done as a couple or a group. Charlie Brown himself is super easy--get a yellow shirt, black shorts, and brown shoes. Draw on black design on his shirt or use a transfer pen to do it. Make sure if someone is Lucy they carry a football. Pigpen is fun and easy; blue shirt, gray shoes, and cover yourself with dirt. Or be Linus with a striped red shirt and blue blanket.

4.) Pong: This is a super cute couple's idea. A friend of mine and her boyfriend did this a few years ago, which is where I got the idea. And it's pretty simple. Both people dress in all white, then attach a strip of Velcro to the front of their shirts. Get a white ball and attach Velcro to that as well. Then, throughout the night, toss the ball back and forth. Fun!

5.)"I"m With Stupid" Couple: This is kind of a silly idea, but it's fun, easy, and cheap. All you need is two "I'm With Stupid" shirts, but make sure the arrows point two opposite directions. Then, be sure to stand so that the arrows are pointing away from the other person to add that extra element of stupidness/silliness. Put on your best stupid face and get lots of pictures taken.

6.) Tetris pieces: This is best with a group. Have everyone dress up like a piece from Tetris, making sure they're all different colors. If that seems like too much trouble, you can just each dress in different colors and get into your pose for pictures. For instance, the person being a square could kneel down, the person in the L shape could sit down with his/her legs out, the all skinny piece could stand up straight with arms in, etc.

7.) Characters From _______: There are so many great TV shows and movies that can inspire group costumes. My friends and I once went as the characters in Empire Records. Some other great ideas are the characters from Futurama,The Simpsons, Coummunity, Star Trek, etc. Just watch the movie/TV show you choose a few times with your friends to get costume ideas and go from there.

8.) Characters From the Game of Clue: This one is good in a largish group of mixed genders. Use the game box or even the movie for costume inspiration. Don't forget the murder weapons!

9.) Cheeseburger with Fixings: This can be done w/ another type of sandwich or other food as well. But basically, have everyone dress as a different cheeseburger topping: tomatoes, lettuce, onion, cheese, pickles, buns, the burger itself. Try to get two people to dress up like buns, then have everyone squish together with each bun on the outside edges when you get your picture taken!

10.) Good cop, bad cop: Another couple's idea. Pretty simple: both dress up like cops. The woman can be the sexy good cop and the guy can be the hardass bad cop, or you can do it the reverse way.

11.) Doctor and Patient: Have one person from the couple wear a white lab jacket or scrubs. They can have a stethoscope as a prop. Have the other person wear a hospital gown, do their makeup so they look sick, and put a thermometer in their mouth. They also make costume hospital gowns that have fake butts attached, so that's another way to go! You can even have the doctor carry around one of those syringe-shaped shooters (a large plastic tube that can be filled with alcohol) and give his/her patient shots periodically throughout the night.
