Costumes for New Orleans Saints Games

Bless Your Team with Holy Costumes

The New Orleans Saints are having a banner year and Louisiana fans might see their black and gold Super Bowl in January. One of the signature traditions of New Orleans Saints games are the crazy costumes filling the crowd. Whether you're making plans to attend a game in New Orleans or planning your black and gold themed Super Bowl party, the following are some of the most popular and creative costumes to wear for New Orleans Saints Fans.

Pope - This is the most saintly of all saints and often makes an appearance at the New Orleans football games. You can make your own Pope hat from a sheet of white poster board. Add some holy bling and practice the hand motions so you can bless the players as they enter the field.

Nun - Nun costumes are usually cheap and easy to find, especially around Halloween. You can make your own with white and black sheets. Plus, the nun costume is cozy under all those long layers which makes for warmer games in November and December.

Bible Characters - Stay with the holy Saint theme by choosing any Bible character, from Saint Peter to the other apostles. Long sheets draped over your head with a headband to secure it and a few Bible accessories like the classic Jesus sandal and a shepherd's staff will add the perfect Saintly touch.

Voodoo Priest/Priestess - Stay a little closer to New Orleans religious roots with a voodoo themed costume. Crazy hair, big sunglasses, and long colored fingernails will set off voodoo dresses or jackets in deep purple and green hues. Carry some voodoo good luck charms and hex the other team.

Blues Brothers - No Saints game is complete without a visit from this duo "on a mission from God." The Blues Brothers costume requires a partner, cheap black suits and black sunglasses. Add a cheap black fedora and learn that famous snapping side-step.

Saint Bernard - Dress up as the huggable, lovable Gumbo, the Saints own Saint Bernard mascot. Use face makeup to decorate your face with whiskers and a big red tongue. Add a headband with long floppy ears and tie a cute little barrel under your chin like a bowtie.

Mardi Gras party costumes - Of course, Mardi Gras themed costumes are always a hit at any New Orleans Saints game. Purples, golds, and greens will make you stand out and still let you be in the Saints spirit. Bring lots of beads to hand out to cute fans. Feather boas, big hats, full-body paint - anything goes at a New Orleans Saints game.
