Broccoli heads to keep you healthy by building better bones since it contains large amounts of calcium, potassium and magnesium which are critical in helping to prevent or lowering the rate of osteoporosis. The calcium found in broccoli is in a form that the body easily absorbs and hence many vegetarians and lactose intolerant people consume broccoli as an important part of their daily nutritional requirement.
Cataracts and age-related macular degeneration is one of the primary reasons why people lose their eyesight or end up with impaired vision. To protect yourself you should eat broccoli on a regular basis. The broccoli contains two important carotenoids (lutein and zeaxanthin) which studies have shown that lowers the risk of both cataracts and age-related macular degeneration. It has also been proven in these studies that the more broccoli that you consumed is the higher your degree of protection against these medical condition.
Brocolli can also help women to lower their risk of breast cancer since researchers at the University of California hypothesized that a natural element in broccoli called indole 3 carbinol, slows and make even stop the growth of breast cancer cells. These chemicals attack the cancer cells from a different angle than the other anticancer drugs on the market, which made them very potent weapons in the fight against breast cancer.
Broccoli can also help to improve your heart health since it is rich in folate which is a chemical that fights the amino acid homocysteine (which damages arteries) and also contains natural chemicals known as flavonoids which protect the blood and arteries from inflammation, clotting and oxidation damage.
Special chemicals in broccoli can help to lower your risk of contracting lung cancer. Special chemicals in the broccoli called isothiocyanates help to limit and repair damage done to your DNA and also influences your body to produce antioxidants, chemical suits you also have to fight cancer. Smoking puts you at high risk of developing lung cancer but consuming broccoli regularly can help to lower your risk and may just save your life.
The potassium, calcium, magnesium and vitamin C of the broccoli plants can also help to balance and control blood pressure. It has been proven in stories that these four nutrients are critical in controlling blood pressure and lowering the risk of heart disease.
