Could the Crash of US Airways Flight 1549 Been Avoided?

The Plane Had Previous Engine Trouble!

I read on Associated Content that the passengers on US Airways Flight 1549 that crashed into the Hudson River were being given $5,000 for their luggage and anything else lost. That may have seen like a good deal a couple of days ago. After all they surely wouldn't sue an airline that through no fault of their own had birds cause a crash landing and through the genius of the pilot no one was killed.

Well CNN reported that in fact this same plane, 1549, on this same route had engine trouble previously. So could the crash into the Hudson River have been prevented and does this now open the doors for a lawsuit?

One passenger heard a very loud noise - one that was not a normal noise. This was the Flight 1549 and the noise was heard over Newark, New Jersey. It was loud and scary enough that people started getting nervous and in fact the plane was going to turn around and go back to LaGuardia.

The pilot came on and told the nervous passengers that they weren't turning around and that whatever happened (air/compression) caused the engine to stall. Although this seems not to happen often the passengers were told that it wasn't all that odd for this too occur. I fly a few times a year. I don't like flying. If I had heard that noise I would have made sure when I landed that someone in charge knew about it.

US Airways won't say whether or not this was the same plane. This begs us to wonder why not. If it wasn't then they would just say that they had a problem on Flight xxx going to wherever. By not admitting the problem on the same flight US Airways are confirming it. Sorry US Airlines but that's the way communication works.

Someone seems to be honest. On Monday the National Transportation Safety Board acknowledged that previously this plane- the one that crashed had engine failure. The pilot flying a couple of days before who experienced this was not the pilot who safely crash landed into the Hudson River. The National Transportation Safety Board is planning on talking with the first pilot to get more information.

Maybe I am just cynical but this whole thing sounds like a cover up to me and when it comes to flying the blue skies there's no room for cover-ups.

My father-in-law worked for the FAA and he said the skies are not as safe as you the airline industry makes it out to be. I visited once and it was a mad house. Planes are so close to crashing each and every second, and that's if the planes are in good working condition. It's scary but that's our life today. We have to take those chances if we want to leave our state.
