Could Lindsay Lohan Be Next Janis Joplin? Expert Says Yes If She Doesn't Get Intensive Help

Lindsay Lohan is Following the Same Path as Janis Joplin, John Belushi, Chris Farley, and Other Drug Abusing Celebrities

In a report by Fox News today, chemical addiction specialist Marty Brenner was quoted as saying if Lindsay Lohan "doesn't receive a lot more intensive help" she could end up like Janis Joplin who died from a drug overdose in 1970.

"It seems Lindsay is on the verge of going down fast. It is not if - it is when - she is going to die, unless she gets the right help this time," Brenner said. "I wouldn't be surprised if Lindsay was the next Janis Joplin."

Lohan, 24, is fresh out of rehab and has already started going back to her old ways and surrounding herself with undesirables who do not have Lohan's best interests at heart.

As anyone with a substance abuse problem know, they don't get better overnight and the amount of time Lohan spent at UCLA was hardly ample time in helping her through any meaningful recovery process. Upon release, she went right back to her old ways and tested positive for drugs on two occasions. She is looking at 30-days in jail for each failed drug test.

Brenner says Lohan's social circle likely tells her she doesn't have a problem and has said Lohan's mother, Dina, has denied Lindsay is struggling with substance abuse. Obviously, it's just easier for Dina Lohan to pretend there isn't a problem, but how will she feel if or when her daughter is found dead from an overdose?

Lindsay isn't the first celebrity to go down this road and if she doesn't stop abusing drugs, it could have tragic consequences:

- Actor Chris Farley's death certificate states he died of accidental opiate and cocaine intoxication at the age of 33.

- According to John Belushi's death certificate, the actor died of acute cocaine and heroin intoxication at the age of 33.

- River Phoenix died from a lethal combination of cocaine, morphine, Valium, ephedrine (which suggests to me he may have done crystal meth), and marijuana. The official cause of death was acute multiple drug ingestion. According to The New York Times, he was just 23 when he died outside the Viper Room in Los Angeles in the early morning hours of Halloween 1993.

- Janis Joplin was 27-years-old when she overdosed on heroin while in Los Angeles. Her official cause of death was acute heroin-morphine intoxication and injection of overdose.

It's unfortunate that Lindsay appears to be following the same path as some of the most talented entertainers in the industry. They enjoyed great success and had the potential for further greatness. Lindsay has the potential, she just has to straighten herself out and get herself back on track by choosing what is more important to her.

Lohan seems to be throwing it all down the drain for that quick fix she thinks will cause all her problems to just disappear. It doesn't work that way.

With the exception of her father, Michael Lohan (who appears to be the only one to recognize his daughter has a problem), the people in her life are apparently in complete denial about what is going on with Lindsay and they are letting her down. As long her family is in denial and she continues to run around with friends who are bad influences, Lindsay will not get serious about getting better.

As a mother, I can say with all certainty if one of my children had a problem, there would be something done and excuses would not be made. I hope Lindsay will get the help she needs because she is so young and she has a promising future if she would just stop using drugs.

Oh lordy....In about 2 hours there is going to be a special on Lindsay on a show called "Issues" tonight. The host of Issues< Jane Velez-Mitchell, is a recovering alcoholic and has TMZ on all the time so she will definitely get to the bottom of this. Issues has done a great job covering this.
