Having type-one diabetes, the body doesn't make any insulin on its own and you will need to take longer-acting insulin. This will make it so there is some insulin in your body through out the day. You may also take short or rapid-acting insulin, which will help you control your blood sugars with meals. Type-two diabetes, some people can get their diabetes under control with pills, and do produce insulin. But it is not enough to keep their blood sugar under control. Some diabetes pills increase their own natural insulin. Other pills help the body use the natural insulin it has.
A diabetic will have to check their blood sugar levels at least two to three times daily. Checking your feet daily is another thing that has to be done because being diabetic it is easy for one to get sores on their feet and that can lead to amputation. Getting an eye exam yearly is another thing people with diabetes need to do as some people go blind from being diabetic.
The main things that diabetes can cause are heart failure, renal failure, which means kidney failure, blindness, and amputations of the feet and lower leg extremities among other things. The worst things a diabetic can do are smoke, drink alcohol, not follow their diet, and not exercise. A huge factor also would be not taking your medications on a daily basis.
If you are someone who is always feeling tired, thirsty, or you don't have as much energy as you usually do and your urinating more than normal, it would be good for you to get checked for diabetes. To be tested they will draw blood and check your blood sugar levels and have you drink an orange liquid. They then will make you wait an hour, check your sugar levels again, and proceed to do the same thing over in another hour
I had diabetes for a long time not even realizing I had it. I started just feeling tired a lot through out the day and even found myself starting to take naps during the day. Sometimes I would break out in this cold sweat and feel like I was going to faint. Later on is when I started finding myself being really thirsty and this would start at night, sometimes drinking so much fluid my stomach would hurt. I just couldn't get rid of that thirst I had. I then would notice my skin getting really dry and cracking, not knowing that was another sign of diabetes. My girlfriend pushed me and pushed me to go to the doctor so I finally went and that is when I found out I had diabetes.
If you are someone who is experiencing these symptoms, I would encourage you to go see a doctor and be tested for diabetes. It is better to find out sooner than later to prevent damage of the organs and having many other health problems. The test can take up to two to three hours but your health is worth it.
