Could a Man Replace Rosie O'Donnell on The View?

Jody Morse
There has been a lot of talk going on about who will replace Rosie O'Donnell on TheView. A lot of people are furious that the show has not yet decided on who will be the permanent replacement. Originally, it was believed that the new replacement was going to be Roseanne Barr. Then, there was talk of Star Jones making a comeback to the show. Both Whoopi Goldberg and Kathy Griffin were also mentioned as potential replacement options for The View. Now, however, it appears that none of the previously mentioned women will be the "one" to replace Rosie O'Donnell. It is rumored that Roseanne Barr may not be an option due to her abrasive personality. Star Jones may not return because she quit in the first place. The talk about both Whoopi Goldberg and Kathy Griffin has died down, though there are both not completely out of the question. But it seems as though Barbara Walters may have something else in mind for the show.

It seems as though the new replacement just may be someone of the male gender. The two leading choices right now seem to be Mario Cantone and Ross Matthews. Mario Cantone is well known for starring in Sex and The City as Anthony. "Ross The Intern" from the Tonight Show With Jay Leno is where you have probably seen Ross Matthews before. Barbara Walters is known to be very fond of both of these men, though it is rumored that she has more of a liking to Mario Cantone. Both of these men are going to guest star on the View. This may be how Barbara Walters will determine which one she would like to have permanently replace Rosie O'Donnell.

Although there are a lot of people who think that it would be quite interesting for a man to be on The View, there are many others who are a bit upset by this. TheView, which began in 2002, always starred four women. They discussed their opinions on certain issues. The talk show has mainly been designed for women to watch. Now that there could possibly be a man starring in the show, TheView may lose a lot of viewers. It's ratings could be affected greatly, as adding a man to the cast will completely change the entire way that the show has been designed. It will no longer be mainly just for women anymore, which may cause it to lose its appeal.

I think a man's view on some of their topics might create an interesting conversation for the ladies, and a new viewpoint for the viewers. Who knows!
