to several music artists selling over 10 million albums. But during the late '90s and the beginning of the 21st century the music industry has been in a slump. One of the reasons the music industry has experienced a decrease in growth is because of the introduction of free music downloads on the Internet. Free music downloads have become so popular because it allows people to download a whole album or certain songs from the album without feeling like they have wasted their money. The excuse many people use to justify downloading music is most albums only have one or two goods songs on it and they would rather save their money and get the songs for free.
Another reason the music industry has seen a decrease in growth is because of the low quality music that's being produced and played on the radio. The low quality music that is being created nowadays has resulted in fans buying fewer albums and attending fewer or no concerts at all.
Both of these issues has the music industry trying to figure out how to increase sales and keep fans interested in the new music that is currently being released.
One way the music industry could get out of the slump it's in is by using the recession to its advantage. It might sound like a far fetched idea but it could work if the people in the music industry take the first steps by making better music and by creating music that has a longer shelf life.
The recession could help the music industry by forcing customers, who like to buy albums, to spend their hard earned money wisely on a music artist that creates great music and has a great album. This could work because people might not be so quick to spend money on albums that are mediocre if they are struggling financially. Therefore, the recession could actually help to get rid of the music artists that continue to make crappy songs with bad lyrics and it could bring in more music artists that enjoy making great music.
Concert sales could be affected by the recession because after a fan buys a great album there's a good chance they might become interested in seeing the music artist perform live.
If you are wondering if the recession could actually help the music industry, there have already been reports on the news of people in the music industry that have not been negatively affected by the recession. Two music artists that been featured in the news are R&B artist Maxwell and Madonna. Both of these artist are explains of people that might have actually benefited from the recession.
Maxwell has made headlines because he has been able to make a great comeback despite being away from the music industry for seven years. Maxwell's comeback has resulted in tickets for his concerts quickly selling out. Madonna has recently been in the news because she has made history with the second highest grossing tour of all time by a solo artist, the Rolling Stones 2005-2007 tour is the highest grossing. Madonna's one year Sticky and Sweet tour has grossed well over $100 million. No other solo music artist has come close to this.
If the music industry uses the recession to its advantage, it could be a win-win situation for the music industry and for the fans.

I agree, it would be great if it helps the music industry.
Good points :)
Very insightful! It would be great if the music industry experienced the rebound you propose during this recession!
