Could This Be a Simple Way to Prevent Ear Infections?

Casey C
A lot of children now of days get ear infections more than ever and even having to have surgery, having tubes put in their ears. Why is it that children get more ear infections than adults do? Adults take more showers than children do, and I believe there is a way to lesson the amount of children who get earaches and to prevent so many children from having tubes put in their ears. From my observation and seeing a few children in my family having the surgery done and hearing of a lot of other people who have children, who had the surgery done, many that I know who still deal with their children getting a lot of ear infections. There is a way to prevent this and I hope others who deal with their children or child getting a lot of earaches will try this and see if it works. This is not something a doctor has said; it is just my little bit of research and my opinion. As we all know if you have ever had an earache it isn't a good feeling, it is very painful so imagine what the children go through.

I believe most ear infections are due to children or adults having their ears submerged in water when rinsing their hair in the bathtub. The soapy water is able to enter the ear and then not drain. I believe this is what causes many earaches and infections for children and adults.

I have a nephew that is in his late 20's, and at times when I would call his house, he would be in bed with a terrible earache. So after him taking antibiotics and feeling better I would ask him if he takes a bath or a shower and his reply was that he takes a bath cause he don't have a shower at his house. I asked him if he submerges his head under water to rinse his hair after washing it, his reply was yes. I told him to not submerge his ears under water and to take a pitcher or glass and pour it over his head to rinse the soap out of his hair. I told him after doing it that way for a while let me know if he ever gets an ear infection again. It has been a year now and he has never had another earache or ear infection.

I had a friend who had a newborn baby who was about 3 months old and had been getting many ear infections and going to the doctor. I asked her if when she gave the baby a bath did she put her hand behind the baby's head dip her head under water to where her ears would be submerged under water, her reply was yes. I told her when she was rinsing the baby's hair do not let her ears be submerge in the water. The baby is now 6 months old and has never had another ear infection.

I am no doctor and did little research on this. This is my opinion on something people can try if their children are getting a lot of ear infections and this can even go for adults who also get a lot of ear infections. If I can at least keep 1 or 3 children from being in so much pain with getting ear infections, then I am happy. There isn't anything worse than seeing your child in that much pain.

Ever hear of swimmers ear? It is fluid build up in the ears that are not able to drain so then it causes an earache. Swimming in pools, lakes, or even the ocean can cause swimmers ear. If you are someone who swims a lot and finds yourself getting a lot of earaches, then I suggest wearing earplugs.

I am not saying this will work for every child or adult but it doesn't hurt to try. I do hope this does help many children and adults from getting ear infections. I am sure there are millions of dollars spent every year on treating ear infections. I have to ask myself, if this one simple thing works for many people, why isn't something so simple known to more people. Could it be cause of the millions of dollars each year that hospitals and doctors receive? So if you or someone you know experiences this problem, or you have a child who does, give this a try and see if it works for you.
