Could the USA Easily STOP Illegal Immigration and Boost the US Economy?

Is There a Simple Solution to Stopping Illegal Aliens?

Christopher Williams
I'm going to begin with a quote from President George W. Bush. "America needs to secure our borders -- and with your help, my administration is taking steps to do so. We're increasing worksite enforcement, deploying fences and advanced technologies to stop illegal crossings. We've effectively ended the policy of "catch and release" at the border, and by the end of this year, we will have doubled the number of border patrol agents. Yet we also need to acknowledge that we will never fully secure our border until we create a lawful way for foreign workers to come here and support our economy. This will take pressure off the border and allow law enforcement to concentrate on those who mean us harm. We must also find a sensible and humane way to deal with people here illegally. Illegal immigration is complicated, but it can be resolved. And it must be resolved in a way that upholds both our laws and our highest ideals."

Not to diminish the good that has been brought about by President Bush, but from the beginning of President Bush's administration, border security and immigration enforcement funding has risen from $4,800,000,000 to $12,300,000,000! Billions of your tax-dollars are have been wasted by the signature of President George W. Bush! Why do we allow one person to control the fate of billions... trillions of dollars? Why not put that money where it should be? Seriously, how much good would $5,700,000,000 do for fighting poverty in America? What about these funds being given to help with education? If those very same funds had been distributed equally between the 50 states, each state's educational funding could have increased by about $570,000,000! What if those wasted funds had been made available to native-born people that would like to start a needed community-business or even a national business and increase economy? Why these billions of dollars were not made available to the people of the United States of America is beyond me. The US economy, under the administration of our President, George W. Bush will suffer with stupid choices such as this! The right solution is not to double our border patrol agents, but rather to fund needed programs in needy areas.

We are not going to stop illegal immigration by doubling border patrol agents and wasting 5.7 BILLION dollars! With thousands of people crossing our borders illegally, these aliens somehow find work in our country. They may even accept extremely cheap wages; helping the US business owners prosper by having a US Citizen loose out on a job opportunity. It would seem that some people (business owners) in our country welcome illegal immigration. These business owners are making the right business choice for their business to make higher profits, but the wrong choice for their own fellow Americans. Should the business that they run suffer for making these poor choices? Does our country suffer from having our president (a politician) make poor choices? I think the answer to both of these questions would be 'yes!'

How can the US government better spend these dollars? Here is a simple solution to better utilization of these billions of dollars. Shift one fourth of the funds allocated into local law enforcement agencies, with provisions that they will begin a crack down on businesses that utilize illegal employees. First make the business pay to have the alien detained and then deported. Make that business pay a salary equal to the amount required for that agent to monitor their business. Put those very same businesses into a higher tax bracket and make them pay for the illegal immigration costs - not the people of the US! How simple would that be? Shift one fourth of the funds into start-up business funding which could potentially boost the United States' economy and offer additional potential jobs to workers that need them. Shift one quarter of the funds into helping to fight poverty in our own American streets. Feed our hungry people. Can you believe that while we are the wealthiest nation, we still have starving people; some homeless and some not? Shift one quarter of these wasted funds into United States Education. Smart people wouldn't want to have to pay the money required to hold and deport these illegal immigrants... and they'd be great business owners! These smarter people could find cures to a disease that someone in your family has. Someone very close to me has cancer. Surely one of these smart people that has benefited from an increase in funding to United States' education could find a cure for that!! There are multiple problems with our o-zone layer. Maybe they could find a way to help stop the rising loss of our o-zone layer! With whatever the funds could be shifted to, surely there would be a better way to utilize 5.7 BILLION dollars that will be wasted on the increase in border patrol.

In my opinion the USA, by empowering one person - the President of the United States; George W. Bush is suffering from poor business and political choices. However we empower that one person and until we change the way these choices are made, I'm sure the poor business and political choices will continue to effect us in many negative ways.

My thoughts. My opinions. My freedom. My America.

Actually, all that needs to be done is for the state governments to perform their functions. Since "providing for the common defense" is actually the basic reason the founder's fought for this new nation and formulated a federal government to begin with, all that is needed is for the various states to sue the federal government for the sums needed to secure the borders, since they are passing "pork" bills for unconstitutional provisions rather than performing their main duty. The states have not done this because various state legislators even in the border states are profitting from the politicking over this issue. It's become political, and both parties use it to their advantage. Treason on the American citizens is what is occurring here folks. Foreigners now have more rights than lawful Americans, so why would they want to even become one at this point?

Great article! You've made some good suggestions and valid points, all of which, would benefit the entire nation.

I cannot believe how bad Bush's speech was, though. He needs a new speech writer!
