Could We See a Batman/Superman Team-Up Movie Soon?

Rumors Flying Again About Ultimate DC Superhero Combo

Eric Shirey

A "source" over at Warner Bros. told website Think McFly Think that there are rumblings of a Batman/Superman (or Superman/Batman, depending on who you favor) film being considered again. Sure there are. What comic book geek wouldn't want to see the two most popular superheroes on the roster at DC Comics on the big screen together?

I'm sure there are more than a few nerds working at Warner Bros. who sit around at lunch and talk about how cool it would be to see the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight in action together. It will be a miracle if a Justice League movie ever gets off the ground, much less this team-up. Either way, let's just go with this rumor and discuss what the "source" had to say.

Supposedly, Warners is working on "Justice League" and "The Flash" just like they reported. A Batman/Superman movie is also being secretly developed as well. At least, that's what Think McFly Think says.

It is true that Warner Bros. was very interested in doing a Batman/Superman team-up film a few years back. It was titled "Superman vs. Batman" and was to be directed by Wolfgang Peterson from a script written by Andrew Kevin Walker. Unfortunately, the idea was scrapped. Executives loved the script for the film, though.

It's rumored there are two different versions of a film being developed. One has "the World's Greatest Detective firmly established and helping mentor an up-and-coming, fresh-faced Superman" and the other is the flipside. I have an idea: How about we start the movie with them just working together equally? Why does one have to be better than the other?

Warner Bros. is hoping it can talk Christian Bale into staying on as Batman for a fourth film after "The Dark Knight Rises" finishes out this trilogy. It's being said that if he doesn't, the studio will just get someone else to take the role. That's a no-brainer. The "Batman" franchise isn't going to come to an end because Bale doesn't want to do it anymore. Apparently Henry Cavill has already agreed to do a team-up film.

Although it would be really fun to see a movie featuring both Superman and Batman together, it's going to take a whole lot to get it onscreen. I think it would be way past the year 2013 before anyone could even realistically start planning for it with everything going on with "Superman: Man of Steel" and "The Dark Knight Rises." Warners is already planning for the "Justice League" movie, another Batman movie after "Christopher Nolan's directorial swan song, and the hoped-for sequel to 'Superman: The Man of Steel" if all goes well. It seems like both DC and Warner Bros already have enough on their plate as it is.
