This looks like fun. The kids have a chance to celebrate together and one of the best things about being a kid is imitating your parents. It may be that later on on the 31st you are going out on the town and they'll feel a little bit stuck at home with the babysitter. This way they have a chance to mimic your partying ways in a safe environment. They may even have a chance to make a new friend or two.
Another fun place to visit might be a college sporting event. Check your alma mater's website for sport activities. Villanova and Penn both have female and male basket ball teams that are active over winter break. In fact the Penn women's program has six games scheduled over their vacation. Bummer for them but fun for the audience.
The New Jersey has a great event on the battleship which will involve the celebration of history as well on New Years day. Of course the mummer's parade is on New Year's Day and the forecast is for a sunny dry cool morning. They also have events starting today which are indoor preparations and fun to see over the next three days. Ice skating atte the riverrink or at the Class of 1923 rink is also a fun safe afternoon of exercise and bonding locally.
