Counter-Strike: The Scrim Guide Part 4 - How to Use the AK-47 Effectively

Learn Really How to Control This Infamously Sporadic Rifle

Eric Yu
Moving continually on in my Counter-Strike: Scrim Guide, I will now move onto the second terrorist-exclusive weapon. In today's segment, I will explain how to use infamous AK-47 effectively and devastatingly while scrimming or just general multiplayer play in Counter-Strike.

Priced at a relatively cheap price of $2500, the AK-47 is an invaluable ally for those who can effectively use it, and a terror upon all else in the game. The AK-47, a famous pop culture icon in our time, is widely known as infamously notorious rifle to control. Boasting on of the highest recoil, or black lash of a gun, in the game, it can really dissuade some to using it. But as the same as all the other firearms in the game, a little hands-on experience and determined practice can have you pulling off accurate shots like a professional in little to no time. With a clip holding up to 30 bullets in ammunition, and a possible three reserve clips, one can feel free to drop bullets at their own whims, yet should maintain a sense of when to use or conserve bullets.

The AK-47 should always be shot in short intervals, or "bursts", that allows the AK-47 to discharge a few accurate bullets, a short period of time to allow the recoil to dissipate while the accuracy rating rebounds, and then done in the same manner for another cycle. A caution here, the AK-47 demands an extremely sensitive finger and a sharply tuned sense to know the difference between a well-executed burst and a burst that accumulated too much recoil. A good training idea for the AK-47 is to practice bursting on a wall and noting down the location of the bullet holes. This will help you to develop a sense of the recoil generated during each burst as well as your own sense of the perfect shooting ratio.

While it has been generally advised for an AK-47 user to aim for the neck as the recoil will logically rebound high enough to force either the first or second shot to land on the head, I feel it is a better practice to shoot where YOU feel the bullet will land. If I have learned anything throughout my years of Counter-Strike, it is that by devising your own shooting style that you slowly begin developing a sixth sense, or instinct, towards the best method of dispatching an opposing adversary.

While spraying, or holding down the automatic fire, on an AK-47 might neither be accurate nor controllable, it can be done. With a little understanding of how the AK-47 recoil works a minor degree of intuitive control, a spray can be directed towards a general direction within a specific radius, and as always should be aimed at the head to ensure an instant dispatch. To counter the recoil on the AK-47, players should always fight the recoil by producing a steady drag throughout the spray. This is done by pulling down on the mouse as the recoil goes up, thus counteracting the two forces to try to steady it in one same temporal zone.

Many players are proponents of the most accepted method of the AK-47 burst style, the two-bullet burst, or the back-to-back tap method. I have personally found that that in up-close to medium range distances, a controlled three to four bullet burst with a little downwards drag is incredibly effective in ensuring the recoil of the bullets stay at a reasonable level while the burst radius is contained in a smaller splash. This method also ensures in the scenario where an enemy is not successfully dispatched that the damage accumulated on the opposing side will be high enough to pick off with an additional one or two bullets.

Please comment on this guide and tell me if the tips were any help to your Counter-Strike experience. I would really love to hear from the Counter-Strike community here at Associated Content. On my next segment, I will switch the tale of the tape and go over the Counterterrorist exclusive firearms.

Although many guides say that the AK is most efficient with bursts, it is not entirely true. In an far-mid to far range situation, I seem to figure that multiple clicks is more accurate. Ordinarily, our main intention is to aim at the enemy's head, but a normal 3 shot burst will most likely guarentee 1 bullet to go where you most want it to be, and hopefully the 2nd. In such case, if you were to click 3 times quickly, as fast as a burst would be, the bullets registers at your desire position. Of course, I might be suggesting nothing new if you're guide explicitly infers that bursts deals with clicking.
