Countries Where Sex Outside of Marriage is a Crime

Gross Human Rights Violations

Antoinette McGowan
There are still countries in the world where sex outside of marriage is a crime. This crime is punishable by the most extreme punishments there is. Living in a country where sex between two consenting adults is legal, it is hard to believe that somewhere in the world people are stilling being punished for doing just that. But it is still happening in several countries. Below is a look at some countries that are ignoring basic human rights.

Iran:

Under Iranian law a girl over the age of nine can face capital punishment for having premarital sex. While for boys to face the same punishment they have to over the age of 16.

Last year a girl was sentenced to 100 lashes for such a crime. The judge claimed it was done because she originally lied about being raped. The boys involved only received 30 to 40 lashes a piece.

In 2004 another woman was stoned to death for having sex outside of marriage.

Pakistan:

Under Pakistan law a person will no longer face the death penalty for having sex outside marriage. Premarital sex is still a crime and can be punished by up to 5 years in prison.

A Pakistan woman was ordered to be gang raped after her brother allegedly had an affair with a woman of a higher social standing.

Saudi Arabia:

Flogging is a well used punishment for the crime of premarital sex. Honor killings are suppose to be illegal but no one prosecutes the perpetrator for the killing of these women.

A father was reported as to having killed his two daughters after they were seen at a restaurant with a couple of men. Despite the fact that a doctor's exam confirmed they were still virgins.

A lot of Human Rights Activist groups are working hard to stop this kind of human rights violations. But we are a long way from putting a complete stop to this kind of ignorance. More people need to stand up and speak out against this. Consenting adult should be allowed to love and be sexual active without fear of legal prosecution in every part of the world. Join your local Human Rights Group and get involved. One voice can make a difference.

"garbage stuff" and trust anyone in internet.
nd I want u to notice that I am a muslim who lives not in the East but still my beliefs are strong, nd nothing like this article gonna change my mind or my religion. Thank u for reading

I know now it is time whn West-side is fighting against spreading Islam to the world, they are fighting wit all that they hav. However, that doesn't worth their time. Coz whta is written in Qoran will happen, wht is not written will not.
P.S. I am not sure about Iran do they really have these lawa or not. But I want people to know that Iran nd Saudi Arabia have two different beliefs. Like S.A. believes in true Islam, while Iran had changed this religion but still calling it the same. Unfortunately, that's sad and not right.

for Pakistan, I lived there many years, nd know many women who have premarital sex and they r still alive and never been ordered being under the rape. Everyone is living its life, it's just a matter of family or personal issue.
Finally, if there is a person who is against Islam, why dont u just read the QORAN(there r a plenty of translations of this HolyBook) and then just make up ur own mind than reading all this "garbage stuff" and

    Hello EVERY1!
u know wht?!? this is all media, which is trying to show off by the lying arguements that ISLAM is a cruel and strange religion, but it's not like that. These article above is not 100 % TRUE. need many modifications and clarifying here. who told u that there is the LAW in Saudi Arabia to kill own daughters if they r meeting wit boys? I am addressing to the author of this article:did u see all that happened by holding a candle there who killed whom and why? even it is TRUE, nd there are evidents and proofs for that it is really happenned, why do u have to judge whole country by one man, who could have probably been crazy(mentally ill). Proove all wht u hav written here. U'd better change ur country nd then started helping nd saving "East-side", but in case they really do need it.. just live ur own life, don't mix up the religion that is indeed TRUE and PEACEFUL. I know now it is time whn West-side is fighting against spreading Islam to the world,

No, it's not the dark ages, it's 2009 and the world has gone to hell in a hand basket filled with disease and crime.
The U.S. allows anything and everything and today due to the slackness in our country's morals my marriage of 41 yrs is nearing a divorce because of another woman.
I don't for one minute excuse my husbands part in this, he desevers to be punished the same as the woman should be.
Adultery should carry a prison term of not less than 8yrs without the possibility of early release for each person involved in adultery.
The U.S. is a slack country when it comes to up holding it's laws.

I am against the extreme punishments for premarital sex but I think it's a good idea to forbid sex before marriage because of the possibility of pregnancy and diseases even if protection is used. Also it's you and I who will shoulder the possible cost of all this.

    pregnancy-->wellfare(your taxes)-->unhealthy environment-->crime(you'll be affected)-->prison(paid for by your taxes)

Good point Antoinette and good for you on what you are teaching your kids. I don't think enough parents get involved. BTW, did you notice your profile says you have been a content producer since 1969??? You and Al Gore must of had a lot of fun running the show. :-)

I do realize why sex before marriage is a bad idea. I am raising my children to wait until marriage to have sex. But that should be by choice not because it is a crime punishable by law. It is wrong for a government to dictate what consenting adults can do with each other. This is not the Dark Ages.
