Country Music Star Chris Cagle Debuts at #1 on Billboard!

Yes Folks, I Enjoy a Little Country Music Every Now and Then

I know you all are used to me reviewing Hip Hop, R&B and Urban Music but we've been together long enough for me to share some of my other interests. So here it goes: I know the words to "Islands In the Stream" from Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, I've been caught singing the lyrics to Carrie Underwood's "Before He Cheats," and yes, I know the Garth Brooks' song "If Tomorrow Never Comes."

I have always found Country Music to be very pure in its lyrics and beats. Most Country songs speak of daily life and experiences and that's why it is no wonder Chris Cagle's, new CD "My Life's Been A Country Song" which dropped on February 19, 2008 is capturing fans and debuted at #1.

Okay, so I've had a chance to sample some of the CD and see Chris Cagle's video performances (let's put aside the fact that the "brotha" can wear a pair of jeans, some leather pants, form fitting shirt and cowboy hat very well) and say that he's got skillz. Chris seems to have a unique way of mixing rock and roll flavor with country appeal, to create a mesmerizing potion.

Take for an example the single "What Kinda Gone," it couldn't be more real. Check out the lyrics from that song: "I heard the door slam and I couldn't tell if it was the wind or was she mad again - oh hell." Now, I don't know about y'all but I know that I've had a few arguments like this where I KNOW my man was probably thinking the same darn thing. The song goes on, "she's getting in her car, thought I heard her say I'm gone. These days, gone can mean so many things: gone for the night, gone for the rest of your doggone life. There's gone for a whiskey night or just a couple of beers - What Kinda Gone?" You have got to love the universal message in a tune like this one. The entire album however, seems to ring true to this sort of real life authenticity and illustrates why even My Life could in fact be a country song.

Other titles on the new CD includes: "No Love Songs," "It's Good to Be Back", "Never Ever Gone", "I Don't Wanna Live," "If it Isn't One Thing" and of course "My Life's A Country Song" where he talks about falling down and getting back up again.... and here's a Cagle classic...."Walmart Parking Lot." Need I say more?

So, am I a Caglehead? I'm not sure yet, but I have to say that I'm feelin' Chris' vibe and gladly welcome him into to my music collection.

C&W reminds me of my ex and thus I avoid it like the plague. It also reminds me of my brother who I took care of in his last month on earth. Since then I am not up on the latest C&W tunes. I would be more apt to sing along to the 'Gambler' or 'Coward of the County' then today's C&W. Good review, but think I will skip Cagle and check out Janet.

Great review. I have heard of him in a magazine that I read about new country music singers that would be releasing there debut albums soon. I haven't had the pleasure of hearing his music yet, but your article makes me very anxious to do so. I would have to agree that he is a good looking guy.
