Out with his family near Dickson, Tennessee, he'd recently come off the road from touring and had stopped for gas. A distraught woman was outside a home nearby screaming "My kids are in there!"
He ran to the home "There was a little guy probably - I don't know - 2-3 years old and he ran from me...he was terrified" in the smoky house. The children were taken out to their mother as the fire department arrived. "I didn't do anything that anyone else wouldn't have done."
He downplayed the hero label, but he stepped up in a life-threatening situation. "I told my kids when you see something like that, that's what you do!" It's one thing to teach by words but another thing to model it.
Stepping up is something Craig Morgan has a habit of doing. A former emergency medical technician, contractor and assistant deputy sheriff, the tour he recently returned from was in Iraq in the "Not Alone" tour, his ninth overseas trip to entertain the soldiers.
He recently commented on his website "I have just flown back from filming in New Zealand. We had an amazing time and got some awesome footage for the TV show, Craig Morgan: All Access Outdoors!"
He served his country for 10 years on active duty in the 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions. He's rubbed shoulders with celebrities, had #1 hits on the radio and yet still maintains an 'everyday person' outlook. "I go home and I still mow my own grass. I clean my own pool. I have kids that I get onto and play with and love the same as everybody else. I will always be that same guy. Just like the people who buy our records and listen to our music."
From his hit song "Almost Home" and "Every Friday Afternoon" on the "I Love It" release to the incredibly popular next "Little Bit of Life" CD he's celebrated good times but payed tribute to the tough ones. "Tough" was a song that touched on cancer, "Love Remembers" keeps it just as real on his current CD. The last track on the "That's Why" CD is "Ordinary Angels" - and for a family in Dickson, Tennessee that is precisely what he is.
His quick actions saved two children, and the home had relatively minor damage. Fast action makes a difference and while it's tested with shows like "What Would You Do" there are many who don't need a television camera to test them. It's said integrity is what you do when you think no one is watching. Craig Morgan helps define that.
Many celebrities lend their names to things for publicity reasons, but it takes a special person to run into a burning building to save kids they don't know. Thank you Craig Morgan - the world needs more like that.

Post a CommentGreat to hear about this hero in real life! And the picture reflects that, a hardworking real man happy to see who's behind the camera, probably not paparazzi!
It's public domain photo taken by a military employee - if in Iraq/Afghanistan many places shaving is a small thing! :-)
Awesome!
