Couples Halloween Costume Ideas 2011

Halloween costumes for couples tend to follow a trend every year. For the most part, people seem to choose the most popular movies of the year to emulate for their Halloween costumes. For 2011, however, there really wasn't a whole lot in the way of good movie fodder to choose from. Sure, there was Harry Potter, Planet of the Apes and Twilight, but really, when the choices are that limited, there's only so much you can do. When you're choosing a couples' Halloween costume, by the same token, you could choose a particularly racy set of costumes, but then you might have to think carefully about whether you'll be in view of any children who might wonder about parts of your costume that you'd rather not have to explain to a five-year old. Of course, if you want to go to a campus Halloween kegger as a racy lock and key, then to each their own.

For slightly more toned-down fun for the 2011 Halloween season, give one of these combinations a try. From retro to original, you might find just the costume for your personalities.

Olive Oyl & Popeye

This classic combination requires little or no work on your part, as both costumes are always available at costume shops, and you'll most likely have no problem finding one even right up to the day of the party. Since most people will opt for the shiny and new, you can make Olive and Popeye retro. If there's a little one joining you, add a Bluto costume or Sweet Pea, depending on the age of the youngster.

Tony Nelson and Jeannie

If you aren't familiar with "I Dream of Jeannie," you might want to get to a television and check it out. This is an easy costume set to create, as you only have to obtain a female Genie or harem costume, and then pair it with a plain brown or black 1960's-style suit, white button-up shirt, and a narrow, solid black tie. Have him hold an Aladdin-style lamp for an accessory. If you want, you can also dress your "Tony" in a 1960s-era astronaut costume.

Bumblebee and a Flower

Like Olive Oyl and Popeye, the Bumblebee and flower has been around for a while, meaning that you can pretty easily piece the costume together fairly inexpensively and without much fuss.

Gorgeous nurse & Old Fart

The gorgeous nurse outfit might be old hat, but a lady dressed up in a sexy nurse outfit is always an attention getter. Pair this costume with the sugar daddy by locating a used wheelchair at a discount store, and then having your partner sit in the wheel chair wearing an old man mask, a blanket over his legs, and a thick old-fashioned sweater.

Riding Hood and the Big, Bad Wolf

Big, Bad Wolf costumes might be a bit hard to come by thanks to this year's Twilight installment, but if you can find one, it's worthwhile to pair it with a Red Riding Hood costume. For Red and the Wolf, you'll have to visit a costume shop, but for an extra kick, go to your local thrift stores and find a plus-sized nightgown that you can put on the wolf costume, complete the costume with granny glasses for the best accent.
