Coupon Etiquette

In today's economy lots of people are turning towards couponing for saving money (you can check my CP page for more articles on saving money), well some people don't take the time to clip them correctly or use them in the right situations. Well here are some tips on basic Coupon Etiquette to help you on your shopping trips!

1. Clip Coupons Along the Lines: Try to be neat when cutting your coupons. Try to cut them along the lines and keep the expiration date and barcode intact. The neater you cut them the easier it will be to organize them in your organizer or binder.

2. Know Your Store's Coupon Policy: Some stores allow you to combine store coupons and manufacturer coupons - some don't. Some stores double coupons up to .99 cents, some up to 1.00 and some that don't double at all. If you know your store's coupon policy it will make your shopping trip and the cashier's life a lot easier. Stop by the customer service desk, or send your store an e-mail to find out.

3. Be Ready At Checkout: Get yourself organized before you go to the checkout by collecting all of your coupons, gift cards, cash and whatever you need to check out ready so that you can make life easier for yourself and the people behind you.

4. Hold Your Complaints Until You Get Home: If an associate won't accept the coupon or sale price ask them politely to please take the item off of your order. If you recieve any rude behavior make sure to call customer service or send them an e-mail.

5. Don't Be Afraid To Ask: If a coupon doesn't go through it's your right to ask them to try again or ask why. Just do it in a polite way.

And here are a few tips on the things that you DON'T want to do!

6. Horde everything in the store. Please don't take EVERY item in the store when it goes on sale. Other people want to coupon and save money too and it's your respectful duty as another couponer to respect other couponers.

7. Roll your eyes at other couponers in front of you - You should be encouraging the other people to use coupons, by rolling your eyes and acting as if they are oh so lame does not help encourage them.

8. Go against coupon policies: It's up to your discretion to buy/sell coupons online - but I choose not. It's illegal and it's going against the CIC's rules. This may sound strange - but respect the coupon!

9. Don't Take The Inserts - From the Sunday Papers, unless you ask. It's annoying to open up the paper and find the coupons missing because somebody else wanted extras. I've had it happen before, and it did not make for a good Sunday.

Well those are all of my tips for you - just remember - coupon nicely, play nicely, and save hugely!!
