Courage to Stop a Monster

Someone once said, "The only thing evil needs to triumph is for good men to do nothing." It is true that a nation whose people are truly great will stand up against a great evil when called upon to do so. But more than that these same people will not only stand up against evil they will also stand up for great things. There is another thing that will characterize and differentiate between a great people and mediocre one. That one thing is "courage".

There is one country that stand heads above any other nations in these modern times, one nation that has lead the way in courage and a willingness to stand up against evil in all it's forms. That country is America. America stands up to support the victims of all kinds of catastrophes. Whether it's helping those affected by famine, plague and natural disasters or fighting an evil dictator who threatens world peace, America can be counted on to take her stand for good people. Adolph Hitler was one such evil brought down on mankind.

Hitler's brought forth the Third Reich in an all out attempt at world domination. The leaders of the European nations could not see Hitler's evil plot early on. They either ignored his world ambitions or procrastinated about what they should to do. But all to soon Hitler and his Third Reich became to powerful to stop. That is until America stepped in and cut down this monster from the world stage.

World War II was said to be the war to end all wars. But sadly this was not true. But the world found out that when things looked impossible and evil is stretch out as far as the eye can see, America can be counted on to step in and turn the tide.

There is a saying that goes "When the going gets tough, the tough get going." There may be no better illustration of this principal than how America responded when the world was being beaten down by the forces of Hitler and his allies. Just when the situation looked impossible and it seemed that Hitler was going to succeed in his insane plans to take over the world, America stepped in and said, "Stop!"

This is not to say that it was not a titanic struggle of good against evil and that the victory against the evil of Hitler didn't come at a great cost. There were battles in World War II that cost our military literally thousands of soldiers in a single day. But did America turn and run? Did America say, "It's too hard"? Did America say, "He's your problem, you stop him"? NO! America stood up, linked arms with its allies and stood together to bring down the greatest threat to civilization the world has ever known.

This would not surprise you in the least if you understood what it is that Americans are made of. Americans are a complex people. Being a nation of immigrants we are culturally diverse. We enjoy our baseball, hotdogs and apple pie as they say. But when the chips are down, all of that falls by the wayside. And more than one ally has found out that America is the country they can count on when nobody else can or wants to step in and stop evil.

This too is not surprising, that Americans are a courageous people. It was a courageous people that tamed this wild land and created the greatest nation on the earth. The American way of life that stretches from sea to sea is the envy of the world. And it took courage for the pilgrims and immigrants to settle this great land. Many come with nothing more than the cloths on their back and a dream. Even today in America you can start with nothing and achieve the American dream.

Lest anyone forget, there are memorials at the battlefields and graveyards in France, England and all across the world that are reminders that it was America that stood up. It was the United States of America that was not afraid to take on the greatest monster mankind has ever known and stopped that monster in its tracks. And if we have to, we will do it again. America's courage in face of great evil is yet another reason why America is great.
