Judge Investigates Security Then Rules OK

According to an announcement by LiveEarthMSN.com an injunction was requested for the Brazilian Rio de Janeiro Live Earth global warming concert scheduled for July 7, 2007.

A concern was raised before the Rio de Janeiro court by prosecutor Denise Tarin that Rio police would be unable to properly execute security for an open air concert expected to draw upwards of 700,000 people. The concert in Rio has been planned for presentation on the beach in front of the famous Copacabana Palace hotel. The injunction request stated that Rio police are already occupied with planning and executing security for the upcoming Pan America games to be held in Rio on July 13-23.

Preparations for the Live Earth Rio de Janeiro concert were suspended earlier this week while the court investigated the security plans and implementations for the free beach concert. Upon investigation, it was determined that extensive ground and observatory security measures were planned, prepared for, and ready to be implemented.

Dozens of observation towers and platforms are planned. A giant stage in front of Copacabana is already built. Police cameras will be mounted and the plan states that all will be fully manned by Rio de Janeiro police.

It was announced on Thursday, July 5, that the injunction had been lifted by the court judge after having been satisfied with the comprehensive investigation of concert security measures. The Rio de Janeiro concert, the only free concert given for Live Earth, will go ahead as planned.

Live Earth's Communications Director Kristina Schake said, "Earlier this week, approval for the concert was withheld by local authorities who wished to review local security capabilities. We met with authorities and addressed their concerns, and the concert will continue as planned."

A concert or remote live performance is planned to take place on every one of the seven continents: in Australia, Sydney; South Africa, Johannesburg; China, Shanghai; Japan, Tokyo; Germany, Hamburg; UK, London; US, Giant's Stadium; and in Antarctica, 5 scientists at a research station doing a live remote because they are isolated with no one going in or out until the Southern Hemisphere spring comes!

Schacke also said, "We are thrilled that Brazil will be part of this monumental global event and that Latin America will help drive Live Earth's message about working together to combat the climate crisis."

Al Gore, speaking in an MSN Live Earth video interview, says that the goal of the 7-7-07 concerts is to launch a 3- to 5-year campaign to persuade every citizen of Earth that by working together to do what each one can do and to convince our local and national governments to do everything they can do the global climate crisis can be changed and made less drastic. As it is, hundreds of thousands of people face war and dislocation because of global climate and ecological changes. Live Earth concerts' goal is to say that we have to work together in the face of a mounting global crisis.
