Court lets armed robber walk Clinton Hill

The court has just put you in danger, Clinton Hill.

Recently, I wrote, "Crime's Creeping Around Clinton Hill," in which I pointed out the following particularly despicable crime:

"A robber is impersonating a cop. On Aug. 26, he ordered a man into his fake cruiser flashing a NYPD badge and a black firearm. The cop-feigning robber drove the man to a parking lot near Fulton Avenue and robbed him. It was broad daylight, 5 p.m."

The article also offers some tips about how to avoid this type of crime.

The reasons it's a "particularly despicable crime" are:

-- It jeopardizes the public trust. The public needs to be able to trust the police.

-- Every citizen is vulnerable to this kind of attack because we are all obligated to cooperate with the law.

-- It mars all positions of authority.

-- It is unfair to every good police officer because it sheds suspicion on them.

Now, the guy who did this, the armed robber who impersonated a police officer, has been caught, according to The Local. It turns out he's a corrections officer. Thus, the badge and the gun.

His name is Danny Weather. He's 46 years old.

Well, thank goodness they caught him. At least, now he's off the street and we're all safe again. We don't have to worry about being robbed by this guy, right? --- Wrong!

This cop-impersonating armed robber is back out on the street because the court released him on personal recognizance...PERSONAL RECOGNIZANCE!

There's your tax dollars at work for you, Clinton Hill, putting you in danger.

From the skyscrapers of NYC, I face strength. From the people of NYC, I gain understanding. And from the heart of NYC, I feel inspiration. So, I tend to write about the city quite a bit.  View profile
