Courtney Love to Auction Off Nirvana and Kurt Cobain Memorabilia

Courtney Love, widow of rock legend Kurt Cobain, is planning to auction off the Nirvana frontman's belongings. In an interview with America Online, Love said her house feels like a "mausoleum," and that she has been in talks with the auction house Christies, about hosting the auction, but that no firm date has been set.

Among the items which would apparently be available for bidding are many items Love feels she nor their daughter Frances Bean, really need anymore. Those items include closets full of flannel shirts. "My daughter doesn't need to inherit a giant hefty bag full of flannel f***ing shirts," Love said online. "A sweater, a guitar and the lyrics to "Teen Spirit"... that's what my daughter gets. And the rest we'll just f***ing sell."

Love has been accused, during the decade following Kobain's suicide, to be profiting on his name, an accusation Love denies. According to reports, Love has the full backing of her (and Cobain's) friends, who feel it is time the singer begins to move on. Love herself says the urge to move on is what prompted the auction, of which a percentage of the proceeds are slated to go to charity. "I still wear his pajamas to bed," she said of Cobain. "How am I ever going to go form another relationship in my lifetime wearing Kurt's pajamas?"

This move may truly mark the beginning of a reinvention of Courtney Love. As she stated on her blog, Love claims to have recently dropped 44 pounds, fixed her botched nose job, and been alcohol and drug free for more than a year. "All I care about is that my self esteem is [limitless] and intact, and that nothing and no situation effects [sic] my self esteem," she posted to her blog at moonwashedrose.com.

As for the claims of making money off her dead husband? Love - who recently signed a $50 million deal to sell 25 percent of the royalties from Cobain's music, denies that money is the motivation for the auction. "Everyone's been positive and behind me on it," she told spinner.com in an interview. "We'll make a lot of money and give a bunch of it to charity."

Although I would love to have something of Kurt's, I would be skeptical as to how much of the proceeds would line Love's pockets. :(
