Courtney Loves Loses Custody of Her Daughter Frances Bean Cobain

Rocker Courtney love has once again lost legal custody of her only child, daughter Frances Bean Cobain. The 17 year old daughter of the Hole singer and the late Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain will be in the temporary guardianship of her grandmother, Kurt Cobain's mother Wendy O'Connor, and her aunt, Kimberly Dawn Cobain.

And while Love's past custody losses were due to the rocker's drug problems and erratic behavior, this time her lawyer says it's about Frances just preferring to live with her grandmother.

According to People Magazine, Love's lawyer, Keith A. Fink, says his client has been kicked her drug problem and has been clean for years.

"Frances is 17 and a strong-willed child, and this is a decision she made on her own" Fink told People.

The last time Love lost legal control of her daughter was in 2003, when Love overdosed on OxyContin after attempting to break into her then-boyfriend's house. In November 2003, People Magazine reported that Frances and her nanny stayed by Love's side after the overdose and waited for the ambulance to come, even making her some green tea. Love told People she made the overdose scare "fun" for her daughter, saying she was going to have to make herself throw up but would then be okay.

Indeed, Love's relationship with her daughter has always been controversial.

In a 1992 article in Vanity Fair, writer Lynn Hirschburg reported that Love continued to binge on heroin even after she learned that she was pregnant with Frances. The aftermath of the article resulted in Love and Cobain being investigated by child welfare services, with the child being removed from the couple's home for a short period of time.

For Frances' sweet 16th birthday last year, Love threw a "Suicide" themed party for her daughter at L.A.'s House of Blues. The underlying theme of the party was allegedly "R.I.P.Childhood", but it was controversial nonetheless. Frances Beans father, Kurt Cobain, committed suicide in 1994.

In 2008, in an article titled "High School Musical Starring Frances Bean Cobain", Love told Harper's Bazaar about her daughter's passion for musicals, saying, "I think musicals comfort her; it's a stability thing. And she's a gay man trapped in a woman's body, like me."

In the same article, Frances Bean praised her grandmother, saying of O'Connor, "She's probably the person I respect most out of anybody in the world."

A court hearing regarding Frances Bean Cobain's custody will be held on February 10, 2010.
