Courtney Paris: Oklahoma Sooners' Steadfast Star

Steve Glenn
Courtney Paris, the highly skillful female basketball star of the Oklahoma Sooners, has impressed many in the womens basketball arena with a consistent production of over one hundred consecutive double-doubles. The Sooners are one of the elite teams of the Big 12 conference in women's college basketball. Although there are many great players in the Big 12 conference, what Courtney Paris has accomplished has never been done in the history of the NCAA. So the question that remains is how this phenomenal athlete keeps up such dynamic performance game after game. The answer may be found in the laws of Purpose and Focus. Take purpose, for example, it is more than just a decision to play well. Purpose is like commitment. It is the determination to get a job done despite the opposition or the deficiency of the surrounded cast. It is a done deal. As far focus, it is an image performance in the mind that has been successfully executed beforehand. The combination of purpose and focus in this way gives birth to a pattern of miraculous circumstances that originate during the course of the game to allow opportunities for great performances. This explains why Courtney Paris is so unstoppable in obtaining double-doubles. The state of her mind is so concentrated that chances present themselves contest after contest. Because of this mental energy, the ball finds its way to her enough times to complete her goals.

The law of purpose and focus is no joke. All great performers knows this, although some are more aware than others. Purpose and focus creates the atmosphere for continued success. For example, suppose every sooner on Courtney's team make a commitment on paper the night before a game to produce doubles-doubles and suppose that every team member imagine that they have already achieved such a result. The atmosphere before the game would be so electric that the ball will bounce almost miraculously in favor of the Sooners on every occasion. Seemingly unique circumstances would unfold for them. No teams with unequal mental force would defeat them. It is the number of players on a team with the most strength of focus and purpose that wins the games. How many times we have heard of a team after having listened to a highly charged motivational speaker just before a game, come out and completely dominate the opposing team? It isn't that the team got any better by practicing skills but that their mind became one with that of the speaker. They began to see themselves performing in ways they never thought possible. A mediocre basketball team using this method where every member's mind is highly on purpose will attract the win over a team of just a few excellent players. This is the power of the mind over circumstance.

Courtney Paris success will continue to follow her into the professional ranks of the WNBA despite what naysayers predict. The degree of her purpose and focus can not be denied. The doubles doubles will eventually establish themselves. Although the competition will be fierce, the power of her mental conviction will make room for her. The opposition does not matter. What will matter is the state of mind her team mates possesses. Infact, it will be very much in the best interest of every member on her team to write down and imagine achieving a production number, even though it may not be reached by that particular player. But this will do wonders for the atmosphere of the game and the anticipation for great performances in all areas. Yes, every player can learn something from the steadfast performance of Courtney Paris. The team that picks her in the WNBA Draft of 2009 will not be disappointed.
