Covenspace: The MySpace for Pagans

Traci Brown
Many Pagans look for sites to keep in touch with friends and meet people who share their interests often. However, many sites fall short and end up falling to pieces within the first few months of launch, or they do not offer the closeness and togetherness that Pagans are looking for.

I recently stumbled upon Covenspace on one of my many surfing trips during the day. My first thought upon seeing the site was, "Oh no, not another Myspace". Hesitantly, I signed up and realized that Covenspace is nothing like Myspace.

Their tagline is "A social site for Pagans" and that it is. After signing up, you are taken to a few pages to begin to customize your page. You are offered a personal page like Myspace, however personal profile customization does not work. You have several site templates to choose from though. Just like Myspace you enter in your likes and dislikes and information on the path you are currently walking. You also set up your blog during your first visit. The blog section is where you name your profile. You can also add categories in which your entries may fall under. You are given a general category, so feel free to customize to your liking.

A little unlike Myspace you are given a "My Hub" page. One this page you will see all the latest information on your friends. If they have uploaded new pictures or blogs, this activity will present here. This is also your information center where any groups you are a member of will show, as well as messages, comments, friend requests, group invites and broadcasts. You also have a calendar on this page where you can leave any type of event and keep track of where you currently are.

You also have a photo section. This section can be arranged in many different picture albums. By default, you have a public album. You have space to leave a comment about the picture, and others view and can leave comments or give you a thumbs up or down on the picture. A very cool option available is the option to create a picture slideshow. You upload pictures, click on the "Create a slideshow" link and select the pictures you want to add. You then can title the slideshow and will receive the code to embed it where you want. Slideshows can be easily deleted if you are not happy with them. You also are allowed to upload videos.

Finding friends is easy on Covenspace. The newest blogs from members are shown on the front page. You can click to view them and add them if you wish. There is also an option on the front page to view so many pages of blog entries, pictures and members. If you're looking for group experiences, you can search the groups to find a little something for everyone. Unlike Myspace, I've found the people there are nicer, the site runs faster and people aren't so vain. If you're looking for open honest discussion, and true spiritual and religious talk, Covenspace is the place.

CovenSpace closed, unfortunately. But it was amazing while it lasted!

sorry, you are wrong about the page personalization- if anything it is even more personalized then myspace because you can use any picture for your backround. you just have to upload it to the backround picture spot on one of the settings pages.
