Covergirl Queen Collection Natural Hue Foundation in Amber Glow

A couple of months ago I purchased a compact of Covergirl's Queen Collection Natural Hue Foundation in a color called Rich Sand. It looked darker in the package than it really was, so when I tried it on it was a bit too light for my skin. So I decided to go one shade darker and I bought the Natural Hue Foundation in Amber Glow for $9.99 at Walgreens.

Claims of Covergirl Queen Collection Natural Hue Foundation

The foundation comes in a small lavender compact that has a large mirror a small sponge and a square shaped tin of creamy foundation. The package claims that the foundation is specifically designed to match skin tones of women of color and that it "reveals luminous skin and provides beautiful coverage that stays true."

It also states that the foundation is fragrance and oil free and provides a lightweight feel and allows you to build the coverage. It also is supposed to have oil absorbing agents and skin conditioners "to ensure that you look beautiful hour after hour."

What the Covergirl Queen Collection Natural Hue Foundation Actually Does

When I tried on this makeup at home I saw that the Amber Glow also looks slightly darker in the package, but once it was on my skin it was definitely a better match for me. It's a milky tan shade with gold, red and brown tones. It looks like a color Rihanna or Beyonce could pull off.

Although it was a close match to my skin something about it was off. It made my face look slightly ashy and unnatural just like the Rich Sand shade that I'd tried at first did. It seems like both of these shades have some kind of white or light colored pigment in them, which doesn't look good on brown skin, it gave me the chalky look that I was desperately trying to avoid.

It is true that the foundation has a lightweight feel but it didn't provide a beautiful coverage to my skin. And I think that the chalky look of this foundation can also be attributed to the creamy formula which I don't like.

Instead of absorbing into the skin the Covergirl foundation just seems to just sit on top of it. So the pigments don't blend in well and the lighter tones stand out, causing my skin to look ashy.

Also, because it doesn't blend in, every layer that you add tends to look obvious. It doesn't look caked on and heavy, but it's definitely looks like you're wearing foundation and it also can look streaky. Another negative was the fact that the Natural Hue emphasizes every pore, bump or uneven patch of skin that your face has.

As far as making me look beautiful hour after hour the Queen Collection Natural Hue definitely failed. I don't have normal skin but after wearing this foundation my whole face looked greasy at the end of the day. It also looked so unnatural because the golden brown pigment was looked like it was sliding away from the oil. Argh! I really hated how looked after wearing Natural Hue all day..

In the End...

I was very disappointed with my second purchase of the Covergirl Queen Collection Natural Hue Foundation. I think the Amber Glow was probably the best match of all the colors in the collection for my skin tone, but I just hated the consistency of it. It's way too hard to blend and even though the color matched it still looked very unnatural.

I wouldn't buy it again because I think it would take too much time and energy to make it look natural and foundation should make you look great by itself. I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars.
