CoverGirl Simply Ageless Serum Primer and Foundation

There is an ad in the latest edition of Prevention Magazine featuring Ellen DeGeneres for CoverGirl's Simply Ageless Foundation and new Serum Primer. She looked so amazingly young that I didn't recognize her (sorry, Ellen!). I studied the picture for a long time trying to decide why she looked so different. She definitely looks younger than her fifty-two years and is in great shape for any age, but a part of me still feels like the photographers over-edited her picture just a bit. Maybe it's just the way she's smiling - it doesn't make her face look quite as round as when I've seen her smile on TV. Regardless, Ellen is a great model for CoverGirl and I am happy that they chose someone more 'normal' to represent their Simply Ageless Foundation. Ellen looked so good that I had to run out to Walmart and purchase the products she was advertising.

CoverGirl's Simply Ageless Foundation and Serum Primer claims it is "Coverage that evens skin without settling in fine lines and wrinkles." Why is this important? Studies have shown that the number one reason people look older is their skin tone. So we need makeup that evens our skin tone, but we certainly don't want one that emphasizes our fine lines and wrinkles. I was pleased to see that the Primer was just as affordable as the other items in the CoverGirl line. It comes in a pretty purple tube which allows you to pump out just the right amount. The foundation contains Olay Regenerist Serum, which gives significant improvement to skin condition in just four weeks and contains SPF 22, a key component which helps prevent further wrinkling due to sun damage. I loved the look of the foundation in the container. You could see the swirl of Olay Serum right in the foundation. It also included a small compartment which holds a round sponge applicator. It seems they thought of everything!

I tried the Cover Girl Simply Ageless Foundation and Serum Primer this morning. I applied the primer with my fingertips and it went on smoothly. It didn't feel greasy or too dry, just a nice light cream that soaks in easily. It took a couple of pumps to cover my entire face, and I tried to put it on evenly, especially around my eyes. I let it soak in for a few seconds and then I tried the foundation.

The foundation was weightless, odor free, and easy to apply. I used my fingertips rather than the enclosed sponge, but the sponge is also a great applicator. If you use the sponge to apply the foundation, make sure you wash it out after every use and squeeze it dry to prevent bacteria from growing. If you want very, very light coverage you can dampen the sponge with water or moisturizer before you use it to apply the foundation and you will get a lighter coverage.

The foundation felt nice as I applied it, but I didn't like the color of the foundation. I chose a classic ivory color, which normally suits my skin tone well. I thought it looked a bit dark in the container but when I applied it, it was a little too light. I rectified the lightness by putting a little of my normal foundation over top and then adding a touch of bronzer to my face. Even with the extra layer of makeup, my skin feels very soft and I do think it looks a little bit more youthful! I would have liked to see a bit more coverage from this foundation, but I think that if I had chosen the appropriate color I would have felt more comfortable with a heavier application of the foundation. Somehow, I think that the white swirl of serum in the foundation threw off my normally good color-choosing ability, although covergirl.com states that the white swirl will not affect the color of the foundation. So basically, what you see is what you get.

CoverGirl has a hotline you can call if you are having trouble with your product. The number is 1-800-4COVER4. They also have a money back guarantee in case you are dissatisfied with the product. You go to their website, print and fill out the form, and mail it to them along with your foundation and they will send you a refund within six to eight weeks. Just make certain you have your receipt.

I definitely would be comfortable wearing this foundation and will probably try it again in a different shade. I like that CoverGirl stands behind their product line, and has created a blush and concealer in the same line as the Simply Ageless Serum Primer and Foundation. They also have tips and videos on www.covergirl.com to help you get the most out of the products.
