Covering Up a Problem Through Binge Eating and Exercise

Exercise combined with binge eating is now being categorized as an eating disorder. When someone decides to binge on food it means that the is finding ways to cope with stress. What usually happens is that after consuming a large amount of food, the person will start to feel guilty and would wish to expel the food eaten. Other may result to forcing themselves to vomit. There are others who exhibit compulsive behavioral activity such as exercise as a means of purging.

Today, exercise is a popular means of keeping one's self fit and healthy. Its popularity seemed to have extended to those who opt to exercise simply to hide their eating disorder. Often the person who has this behavioral problem tends to see the activity as a means of punishing one's self because of guilt. Guilt caused by actions that were primarily caused by stress. This type of behavior must be identified and confronted so that it can be corrected. The earlier that this behavior is corrected the better. Because behaviors like this may soon grow in full bloom eating disorders that may be health threatening or in extreme case life threatening.

Sometimes a person feels that the solution to their problem or problems is to take their mind of the things that are bothering them and so what happens is that they binge on food and then subject themselves to exercise. Depending on the person, this behavior can be just a single case scenario, others drag on for weeks, months, or maybe even years. It is important that this doesn't become a habit because this type of compulsive behavior will persist unless the underlying reasons for the action is determined and confronted. To try to covering up a problem does not lead to a solution. It only allows negative behaviors to sink in that may soon become part of the daily lives of those who suffer form this behavior. It will soon turn into a cycle of deception and abuse.

When a person who is suffering from an eating disorder decides to hide the disorder through a socially acceptable means of purging, such as exercise, it only confirms the seriousness of the person's condition, and proper care and attention must be given even at an early stage. Compulsive activity can actually lead to stress fractures or other more serious conditions.
