Today, exercise is a popular means of keeping one's self fit and healthy. Its popularity seemed to have extended to those who opt to exercise simply to hide their eating disorder. Often the person who has this behavioral problem tends to see the activity as a means of punishing one's self because of guilt. Guilt caused by actions that were primarily caused by stress. This type of behavior must be identified and confronted so that it can be corrected. The earlier that this behavior is corrected the better. Because behaviors like this may soon grow in full bloom eating disorders that may be health threatening or in extreme case life threatening.
Sometimes a person feels that the solution to their problem or problems is to take their mind of the things that are bothering them and so what happens is that they binge on food and then subject themselves to exercise. Depending on the person, this behavior can be just a single case scenario, others drag on for weeks, months, or maybe even years. It is important that this doesn't become a habit because this type of compulsive behavior will persist unless the underlying reasons for the action is determined and confronted. To try to covering up a problem does not lead to a solution. It only allows negative behaviors to sink in that may soon become part of the daily lives of those who suffer form this behavior. It will soon turn into a cycle of deception and abuse.
When a person who is suffering from an eating disorder decides to hide the disorder through a socially acceptable means of purging, such as exercise, it only confirms the seriousness of the person's condition, and proper care and attention must be given even at an early stage. Compulsive activity can actually lead to stress fractures or other more serious conditions.
