Covert Affairs: USA Networks Summer Show

The USA summer series Covert Affairs has just had its season finale. As interesting as the series may have been does it have the staying power to come back again next summer? I guess we will have to just wait and see if USA has decided this twelve show series has enough bang to carry through another summer season.

Piper Perabo, who is probably best known for her bar dancing role as Violet "Jersey" Stanford in "Coyote Ugly" or as Mae, the daughter who can't find a man in "Because I said so", plays new CIA operative Annie Walker. Hired due to her ties with a man from her past, Annie has proven herself mission after mission that she can hold her own in the daily grind of a CIA operative.

Christoher Gorham was once a serial killer in the 2009 summer series "Harper Island" not he is a blind CIA operative. Auggie Anderson lost his eye sight in the line of duty. Now he has heightened his other senses and skills and can maneuver a keyboard like no other.

As the season began we were shown the flashbacks of Annie's past. He traveling adventures with a man she hardly knew but fell in love with. He left with only a note on the pillow leaving Annie with a broken heart and alone in Sri Lanka. Annie lives in her sisters guest house and decides to join the CIA to move on. Little does she know that the CIA is interested in her past and the man she was in love with. Although the CIA does benefit from her multilingual skills they are more interested in luring out Ben Mercer, the man from Annie's past that broke her heart.

The two hour season finale was two separate episodes in which Ben and Annie work together trying to stop arms dealers from selling nuclear weapons. Annie's feeling for Ben are obvious throughout both episodes. Shots ring out and in the end we are left wondering if Ben is dead or alive. Did Annie's love interest only last a single season? What could they possibly have in store for her next season that she hasn't already endured? At this point one can only hope that Covert Affairs has the staying power necessary to make it back for season two so that we can learn the fate of Ben Mercer and see what USA has in store for Annie.
