Cozy Holiday Decorating Ideas

If Halloween is all about things that go bump in the night, then Thanksgiving and Christmas are about cozying up to the things you love. And what could be cozier than holiday decorations that make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside? So to fill your holiday with heart-warming cheer, here's a bundle of cozy holiday decoration ideas.

1. Edible Christmas tree

You'll find a faux one-foot-tall Christmas tree at craft stores. Now all you have to do is bake cookie Christmas ornaments for it. Using cookie cutters, bake pumpkin-shaped cookies for Thanksgiving, or star-shaped ones for Christmas. Make a hole at the top of each cookie and thread a ribbon. Then hang your cozy holiday decorations on your tree.

2. Homemade holiday mugs

When everyone gathers around a log fire, it's time to bring out another of your cozy holiday decorating ideas. A holiday mug for every person! Using Pebeo Porcelaine 150 glaze (found at craft stores) you can paint on ordinary ceramic mugs. Write merry messages or use holiday stencils to decorate the mugs. Create autumn leaves for Thanksgiving mugs and snowflakes for Christmas.

3. Holiday pillow comfort

Look for red, orange and green pillows on sale at thrift stores or online outlet stores. Decorate the pillows for the holiday using iron-on decorative patches (found in craft stores). Pumpkins, leaves and scarecrows are great for Thanksgiving. While snowmen, trees and stars will look beautiful on Christmas pillows.

4. Unexpected holiday throws

Look for holiday throws online to find the best prices. Buy a set and spread the throws on the backs of chairs and sofas. Holiday throws also look beautiful when hung on the wall like tapestry. You can even implement this cozy holiday decorating ideas by draping a throw over your window valance to give it cozy holiday charm.

5. Sandy holiday candle holders

Candle light is soothing and beautiful. And if you spread holiday candles around the room in advance, you can easily light them when appropriate. Display candles in water glasses and secure them in place using sand (found in craft stores). Stripes of orange and brown sand can look beautiful with an Orange Thanksgiving candle. While green and red will work well for Christmas.

6. Windows and Mirrors that Tell a Story

Decorate your windows with affordable vinyl window decorations (sold at party stores). You'll find beautiful holiday images to choose from, like a shower of fall leaves for Thanksgiving, snowmen for Christmas, or a menorah and Dreidel for Hanukkah. The decorations can be seen both indoors and out. And don't forget to decorate the corners of mirrors with these images too.

7. Apple abundance

Add natural color and fresh scent to your rooms using apples. Display apples in bowls on tabletops. Make a line of apples over your mantelpiece. String apples on fishing wire and dangle them over your hallway mirror or window. Or fill a large glass vase full of apples (instead of flowers).

8. Holiday towels

Don't forget your bathrooms. You'll find holiday towels online. You can also switch to holiday colors, such as all orange towels for Thanksgiving, or all red for Christmas. And add a bowl of seasonal potpourri with pinecones with the right scent and ambiance.
