The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced on October 12th, 2007, in cooperation with the firms involved, the voluntary recall of two products; Shag Rugs from J.C. Penney and Turtle Sprinklers sold through Ross Stores and dd's Discount.

J.C. Penney recalled about 2,900 "Alyssa" Shag rugs. The rugs do not meet federal standards for flammability. Therefore, they pose a fire hazard to consumers. The rugs were sold through the store's catalog and web site in the time frame from June 2007 to August 2007. The rugs involved in the recall had the following dimensions in oval: 2'x3', 4'x6'x, 5'x8', and 8'x11'. Furthermore, the recall also includes rugs with the dimensions 8' round and 2'x6' rectangular. The product has been manufactured in India.

Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the rugs. The rugs can be returned to any J.C. Penney store for a full refund. For further information, consumers may contact J.C. Penney at (888) 333-6063 or visit the website at www.jcp.com.

The second recall involves about 1,800 Turtle Sprinklers sold by Ross Stores with the SKU number 400022708494. This number can be found on a label on the underside of the sprinkler. The sprinklers have been sold through Ross Stores and dd's Discount in the time frame from March 2007 to September 2007. The turtle's body can fill with water. This can lead to the body cracking or exploding, which is a laceration hazard for consumers. The company has received one report of a turtle sprinkler cracking after the turtle's body filled with water. So far, there have been no injury reports involving the turtle sprinklers. The product has been manufactured in China.

Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the sprinkler. The product can be returned to the place where it was purchased for a full refund. For further information, consumers may contact Ross Stores at (877) 455-7677 or visit the website at www.rossstores.com.
