The sixth season takes viewers through some of the roughest situations the captains and crews have had to face. The challenges include rough weather, crew conflicts and the death of beloved Captain Phil Harris.
With a one million dollar reward on the line, the rival captains fish for crab. There is a fracture in the Bering Sea brotherhood, as old allies become mortal enemies and skippers rage against each other.
Captains of the fleet include Captains Sig Hansen of the Northwestern, Jonathan and Andy Hillstrand of the Time Bandit, Keith Colburn of the Wizard and Phil Harris of the Cornelia Marie.
Captain Phil Harris is still seen in the sixth season, as the episodes were shot before his death in February, 2010. Harris passed away after he suffered a stroke while working on the Cornelia Marie in Alaska. The captain was mourned by fellow captains, his crew and by fans of the Deadliest Catch. Captain Harris' two sons, Josh and Jake, are on the crew of the Cornelia Marie.
Crab fishing is not an occupation for the weak or frail. Crab fishing is a lucrative, but dangerous occupation. The working conditions on the Bering Sea are dangerous and rough. The crews spend months away from home while they search for their precious prey in the deep sea.
Viewers can watch while the crab fishermen endure monstrous waves, icy conditions and storms. The crews must navigate rough waters and personality conflicts in challenging living conditions.
Discovery Channel airs new episodes of Deadliest Catch on Tuesday nights at 9:00 p.m. ET. The series is extremely popular, particularly for the male demographic.
