Crabill's Hamburgers is One of the Best Burger Places in the USA

Urbana, Ohio's Treasure Shows White Castle How to Make a Slider

Crabill's Hamburgers consistently tops American best burger lists which is a surprising feat for a little hole-in-wall in Urbana, Ohio. Their sliders put White Castle's to shame, sporting a sweet flavor that combines ground beef, relish, and brown mustard on a tiny bun perfect for soaking up any excess juice.

Burger fans from all over the United States regularly make their pilgrimage to Urbana to sample one of Ohio's unique restaurant treasures. Family-owned for over 80 years, Crabill's stands as a testament to quality over the mediocrity of franchising that hampers most American fast-food restaurants.

Crabill's History of Hamburger Delicacies

Forest Crabill began his hamburger legend selling the beef delicacies out of an Urbana garage in 1927. Popularity soon forced him into another Urbana location-a Firestone gas station. His wife, Freda, took over the business upon Forest's passing in 1956.

Freda retired in 1988 after another oil company bought the Firestone station, tearing it down. Her granddaughter, Marsha Crabill, along with her husband Andy, reopened Crabill's in its current location one year later.

A Crabill's Slider is the Best Slider

Crabill's is a tiny place, with a few bar stools and some outdoor picnic tables as its only seating. The small size is for the better, since it gives a great view of Marsha (or Andy) working the grill.

A collection of beef sliders is normally in action grill-side, as the little burgers soak up the juice and flavor. A Crabill's burger (or cheeseburger) normally comes with sweet relish and brown mustard as the only condiments. Ketchup is grudgingly available on request; it only became available as a condiment option in 1990.

Expect to down at least 3 to 4 sliders for a meal. Chips are available as a side item. The Crabill's menu also sports different styles of hot dogs, but this reporter finds it sacrilegious to travel to Urbana and not get a few sliders. Various brands of quality soda pop are on-hand to help wash down the burgers.

Crabill's is must-visit destination for all hamburger fans. Harold and Kumar wasted an entire movie chasing down the wrong brand of slider; White Castle has got nothing on Crabill's hamburgers.
