It's a very rare occasion that I get to go out to dinner with my family. Sure, my husband and I go out to dinner frequently, but it's been a long time since I went to dinner with my mother or grandparents. I recently had the opportunity to go to dinner with my mother, grandmother, grandfather and aunt. Since my family came to visit me, we decided to try the local Cracker Barrel Restaurant.

The nearest Cracker Barrel Restaurant to my home is located in Barboursville, West Virginia. If you weren't looking for the Cracker Barrel specifically it would be easy to bypass. This location is hidden behind a Sonic Drive-Thru, a small strip mall, and wedged between a kid's play-land restaurant and a Hampton Inn Motel. It's not hard to find as long as you know where to look and considering that there are several restaurants squeezed into the mall area it's easy to understand why the restaurant is located where it is.

Arriving at the Barbourville Cracker Barrel at around 5:15 pm we did not have to wait to be seated. In fact there were many open tables in the large restaurant. One thing I love about Cracker Barrel is the atmosphere. The wood tables that have been varnished to a high gloss have oil lamps for centerpieces. The light fixtures are fashioned to look like lanterns. The walls are covered with old fashioned art and memorabilia. Another great thing about Cracker Barrel is their gift shop located in the entry area. It's a great place to find unique items for your home and garden.

After being seated and looking over the menu we placed our orders. It didn't take more than 15 minutes for our food to be prepared and brought to our table. I ordered the Chicken Fried Chicken dinner. This was a piece of chicken that was grilled then covered in a batter and fried. The chicken was covered in white gravy. In addition to the chicken this meal comes with three sides. I ordered cole slaw, fried apples, and mashed potatoes to go with my chicken.

The taste of the chicken was wonderful. It was full of flavor and juicy. The white gravy was a perfect match for the chicken. The mashed potatoes were a bit dry and did not have much of a taste though they were hot. I love fried apples and while I thought these tasted good I was disappointed when they arrived cold. All in all this meal was good though it could have been much better. For around $12.00 I was satisfied with what I had chosen from the menu.

I will go back to this Cracker Barrel Restaurant in Barboursville again as they have a friendly staff who get your food to you quickly. Next time I may order something different. The meatloaf that my mother ordered looked excellent.

I was robbed during BROAD DAYLIGHT at Cracker Barrel while parked along the sidewalk on the side of the building. When asked the clerk to call police their first response was "the same thing happened last week." They don't have security cameras in place to help catch criminals and sent letter they "aren't responsible for criminal acts on their property". Very disappointed that their PR for "family oriented" restaurant is only in speech. If you plan to eat there I would be sure you are seated where you can observe your car, and don't let kids or loved ones go out to get anything out of the vehicle in case criminal still there and hurts your loved one-otherwise it isn't safe.
