Before the end of the 2010 MLB season, the majority of baseball fans were not aware that the 2011 season would usher in a cold and unpleasant time to enjoy baseball.
Major League Baseball owners and Commissioner Bud Selig should have taken into consideration that playing the majority of the first ten games in cold weather cities would become a very bad choice for baseball, and likewise their fans.
MLB fans should not have to brave the elements in order to enjoy a baseball game, as a matter of fact, the teams that are located where weather plays a part in attendance - should have domes to protect their customers from the elements.
Commissioner Bud Selig proclaims that; " For Major League Baseball, the last 10 years have been a golden era with unprecedented growth in revenue and popularity. The last seven years have been the seven highest-attended seasons in the history of baseball...Major League Baseball clearly is more popular today than it's ever been in its history."
If this may be the case, then why is it that the majority of Major League games are played outddors at the beginning of each season? Professional baseball cannot compare to the NFL, due to the fact that pro football has always been a sport where the elements add to the excitement and thrill of the game. In stark contrast - it is exactly the opposite pertaining to pro baseball games. Baseball has always been a game that is enjoyed best after spring time.
Even though the 2011 MLB season has gotten off to a chilly start, this may be a time where baseball owners and the Commissioner can reevaluate the need for retractable dome stadiums. The end result will be a win win scenario, as Major League Baseball has the revenue to create the ultimate fan friendly enviornment.
