The first craft using tin cans has been around for a long time. A telephone! A telephone of sorts I should say. All you need is 2 tin cans and some string. Have an adult put a hole in the bottom of both cans and then thread the string through both holes. The string should be about 3-4 feet long. Tie a knot inside the can so the string will not come out. That's it! It is amazing and fun how this works. Kids love it!
Another great idea for your tin cans is to make pencil and pen holders. You can do several things here. You can paint the cans if you like. Spray paint works well for this. The kids can then decorate the painted can however they like. They can put stickers, glue embellishments or glue cut outs on it. It is their can and they can do whatever they wish. Another cute idea is to cut out different colored papers into various sizes. You can put glue all around the can and have the kids stick the different colored paper around. This can be a fun decoupage idea.
A cute idea for girls is to have them decorate the can anyway they like and then use it to hold their hair accessories. They can slip their pony tail holders over the can, or keep them safe inside. Hair bands can hang over the edge. They can keep their brush and comb in the can as well. A cute idea is to buy that fuzzy trim you can find in the fabric aisle at craft stores and hot glue the trim to the edge at the top. You can even glue material all around the can and top it off with the fuzzy trim. How about a zebra print fabric to go around the can with a hot pink fuzzy trim on top? Cute!
You can make crafts using tuna cans too. You can make a ladybug. Spray paint the tuna can red and let it dry. Get some black felt material and cut out different size circles. This will be the spots on the ladybug. Then glue them on the dried red can. You can glue on googly eyes and use pipe cleaners as the antennas. So easy and so cute!
You can also use the tin can lids for craft ideas. You can glue a magnet on the back of the lid and then decorate the front any way you like. I have seen pictures glued on the front. That is a very neat idea and unique way to show off your pictures.
Craft ideas using tin cans are endless! Let your imagination go wild and see what fun crafts you can come up with.
