Craft Project : How to Make a Long Stemmed Rose Using PartyLite Votive Candles

Easy to Make Gift Idea. Great for Mother's Day, Weddings & More

Jenn C.
Everyone loves roses and the scent of candles. This finished project makes a wonderful gift that lasts, and the best part is they do not wilt. You can give them as a gift for Mother's Day, Valentine's Day, Birthdays you name it. If you buy the candles in bulk from eBay you can even make them up as party favors for bridal showers and weddings, using the bride's wedding colors. I have also sold these at craft fairs

Supplies you will need:

Roll of Tulle (not individual packs but a continuous roll)
PartyLite Votive Candles Only (other brand votive candles will not look right)
Balloon Sticks with cup can be bought from www.orientaltrading.com
Green Floral Tape
Glue Gun
Scissors
Curling Ribbon
Craft Knife
Leaves from fake flowers, that have a hole in the center to slip over the stick. Two leaves will be attached around the hole.

Cut the balloon stick with a craft knife, just a straight cut down to the size you feel is long enough for a long stemmed rose.

Take a PartyLite votive candle and remove the wick from the bottom
Set aside. Throw the wick out.

Next start taping with floral tape beginning at the cup, wind around overlapping just a bit neatly, when you reach the end of the cup, push tape in to make indentation, cut and add a bit of glue to hold into place.

Then start wrapping the stick, I add a bit of glue here when I start winding. When you reach the end of the stick leave a bit of excess. Turn stick upside down so you see the bottom and add just a small drop of hot glue and push in the excess tape. Be careful not to get burned. Cut if needed.

Cut a piece of tulle about seven inches long, take the PartyLite votive candle and hold in place on top of the balloon cup, place the tulle over the top of the candle pull tight towards the cup and tie a very long piece of curling ribbon around it, make sure to double knot it.

Tip: It's easier to have someone else tie the ribbon for you so you get the tulle nice and tight around the candle. You want it so that the candle does not move.

Curl the curling ribbon with scissors, and cut the ribbon to the length you desire.

Now take the fake flowers, pop off the heads of the flowers, remove the leaves, slide the leaves over the bottom of the balloon stick and glue into place. You now have a great smelling beautiful long stemmed rose.

As with colors of roses, use any color of PartyLite candles you choose. I especially love the purple and pink. Hope you enjoyed this great craft project that makes a beautiful gift.
