Figurines
Kids will love making figurines out of acorns, and there are a variety of figurines you can make using acorns. For this craft you will need acorns, a hot glue gun, leaves, pine cones, and twigs. Markers and paint are also needed for this craft.
Start by drawing a face onto the acorn using the marker. Then glue the acorn to the bottom of a pine cone to create the body. Then add twigs to the pine cone for arms and legs. Then add leaves to the pine cone for clothing. Other nature items can be mixed in for fun.
Pumpkins
Another fun craft project for kids is making miniature pumpkins out of acorns. For this craft you will need acorns, orange paint, green paint, black paint, and paintbrushes. It is also a good idea to cover the work surface with newspaper.
Start by helping kids remove the top of the pine cone gently without breaking the rest of the pine cone. Then help kids paint the acorn orange. Then paint the point green to look like a stem. When the green has dried you can help kids use the black paint to add a fun face to the pumpkin. This is a great Halloween craft project that kids can create using acorns.
Nature Treasure Box
A nature treasure box is a fun craft for kids that you can use acorns to create. For this craft you will need pine cones, sticks, a hot glue gun, hot glue sticks, ribbon, leaves, and scissors. Make sure all of the acorns are about the same size.
Start by cutting all of the sticks into the same length. Glue them to a leaf in the shape of a square. Create another stick square in the same manner. Then help kids remove the tops from the acorns. Glue the acorns upside down around the edge of the stick square to create a box.
Then cut a few pieces of ribbon about 3 inches long. Then glue the ribbon strips to one side of the free stick square. Then help kids lay the square on top of the box. Glue the ribbons along the inside of the box. This will make a lid for the treasure box.
Acorn Door Sign
An acorn door sig is fun and easy to make with kids. First you will need paint, paintbrushes, heavy cardboard, scissors, a marker, ribbon, hot glue sticks, and a hot glue gun. Start by helping kids to write their name on the cardboard. Then lay the acorns along the written word. Remove the acorns and paint them. Then glue them to the written part of the cardboard. Fill in the gaps with the remaining acorns. Kids can paint them if they like. Add the ribbon to the top of the sign in a loop so your kid can hang it.
There are many craft projects for kids using acorns. Acorns are a valuable tool for fall craft projects, and kids will enjoy searching for acorns out in nature.
